AIBU to be annoyed at doctors surgery

Hi I found out I have a hyperthyroid two weeks ago and gp referred me to an endo. On Friday I received a letter from the end to my gp explaining that he want me to go on meds before I see him in his clinic in a few weeks time.

I phoned surgery first thing monday morning (couldn't phone friday as they only talk appointments in the morning) and was asked for a brief description and was told its emergency appointments only today and its not an emergency by receptionist.

Phoned tuesday - same problem. Phoned today and was told gp will phone me to discuss letter late morning. Still not heard from gp.

AIBU to feel like that I'm not been taken seriously and just want an appointment to get some medication!

My GP was able to diagnose and treat (carbimazole) my hyperthyroid from the day my bloods came back. It does sound like a bit of a shit show round your way. Hopefully the GP will call you and arrange the meds you need.

I agree it sounds shit. GP should be able to prepare a prescription for carbimazole without seeing you. The endo has presumably told them the dose anyway. I would ask for a phone call, and don't accept it not being same day. Carbs take a rew weeks to kick in and make you feel better.

On the other hand the endocrinologist could easily have enclosed a prescription with his letter saving you and the GP work.

2rebecca thats what i don't get why the endo didn't just do the prescription but it does say in the letter for my gp to explain the side effects and action to take if i have any, so was thinking maybe thats why he hasn't done one.

If he wanted your GP to discuss side effects etc then that's why it will need an appointment not just a prescription from your GP and most GP surgeries won't have instant appointments. Could you not just book an appointment with a GP for a few days time?

No cant book appointments in advance. I asked on Monday if I could book one for today and the receptionist said no.

Hopefully she can go over side effects on phone and I can pick up prescription tomorrow

Endo won't have given prescription as then cost comes from hospital budget rather than GP's. I was phoned by my GP informing me of the results of my blood tests, they had spoken to the endo and had a prescription ready for me to collect. She also went over side effects and thyroid storms. I didn't even have to phone them.

My GP said she could prescribe beta blockers to deal with the symptoms and then 4 weeks later I had my hospital appointment where they prescribed me propylthiouracil (I'm bf). Sympathy for you, it's horrendous isn't it. My GP always offer to ring back so they don't have to give you an appointment.
