Worrying about house not being ready in time!

Bought our first home, it's finished inside. Last week they had the "second clean" being done. But outside still needs drive doing and grass laid/fence put up.

They have two weeks until the week we were given that they should be finished. We haven't been given a date yet! I'm so bloody stressed! My house tenancy I'm in atm ends in a week, thankful landlord said we could stay an extra week.

Sounds ok? Work on new house is due to be completed in two weeks and tenancy has two weeks left.

But what if the house isn't done in two weeks. Does it take that long to lay grass and put up a fence?

You can get a lot done in two weeks . Try not to worry

but you can move in without grass!

Worst case scenario, you can very happily live in a house with no lawn and garden fence. It's not something that makes the house unsafe or uncomfortable. It might be a bit disruptive while they get it done but you'll be able to move. And fencing and laying turf doesn't take long, anyway.

Breathe. It'll be fine.

Tell the workers you only a week of tenancy left! Don't tell them about the extra week. Tell them you're elderly mum is moving in!

If it's only the outside surely you can still move in? DH is a painter and is regularly still in new builds working the day before people move in

Builders said they don't sign off and give estate Agent the keys until work is done 😩

Surely if you've bought it and it's yours, then you don't need anyone else's permission to move in?

I moved into my house 3 days after it was finished being built. We completed while the trimming was still being sorted. They promised it'll all be done by the Tuesday we moved in. We moved in and they were painting walls. Stressful but ok

Grass can be laid in a day, fences can be put up in a day or two, drive might take 2 days, depending on the amount of prep needed.
Ensure you visit again asap, and go round making a note of bits to be fixed - it's called snagging - easier to get those things done before you move in, rather than after.
