Aibu to raise a glass that these vile men ,and women who helped them, have been jailed for years and years.

And I hope the child victims get the help they need.

enthusiasm let's name the problem. It's Pakistani Muslim men. I've never heard of a Sikh or Buddhist Paedophile ring. And Asian men from these backgrounds are tired of being lumped in with these men, who see women, especially white women, as worthless whores.

The woman who got a suspended sentence was herself exploited. There was a system which appears to have been replicated throughout the country. Exploit a young girl, when she starts to get a bit too old you force her to go out and find people to take her place. These girls are already groomed and brainwashed and scared, so there really is a lot of mitigation in these circumstances. She is 40, but the offences were a long time ago and she is only a few years older than the victims.

The court recognised that she herself had been sexually exploited by taxi drivers and the other woman involved (who is 19 years her senior) used this to manipulate her and use her as a guise to lure in other girls.

There was rightly a lot of publicity given to the sex attacks in Germany, but I think the scale of this is on a completely different level.

Yea in Rotherham the men are from Pakistani Muslim backgrounds

But I do not think all Pakistani communities are the same or Muslim men

It appears to be more poorer or working class backgrounds

And Enthusiasm, these were not all girls in care, quite a lot of them came from loving families who tried to stop the abuse but couldn't because the police and social services refused to help. Some of them (certainly the victim I know) ended up in care only after the abuse had started and that happened with the encouragement of their abusers because it made them an easier target.

Yes I know they were not all in care but a number of them were because they are easier to target by abusers

Enthusiasm, you might like to read the parliamentary report into CSE, which found that although many Muslims were appalled by the actions of these men, they believed that it would be wrong to turn them in to the authorities as 'you don't turn on your own community'. There are lots of accounts of families and communities of abusers making it very clear they viewed the victims as worthless and even totally to blame for the abuse to the extent that they believed the abusers were the real victims. There are definitely issues within Muslim communities which need addressing.

Interestingly one of the victims has written a book and she says that the person who rescued her was an elderly Muslim man who was dying of cancer and knew for that reason there was little the abusers could do to intimidate or harm him.

But you are right it's only some communities, mainly Miripuri Pakistanis who are considered backwards and brutal even by other Pakistanis.

I have raised a glass tonight to the judge who passed those sentences.

I know some of the victims. There are still victims today who are suffering.

I also have in my thoughts the families of those abusers. Some of them are children. One in particular is a child who has been through far too much for such a young person and I hope she is ok tonight wherever she is. And I hope she stays safe.

As for those who did what they did prison is too good for them. I hope they are subjected to the same as what they doled out and I hope they rot slowly in prison.

Yes that's another issue closing ranks and how non Muslims are viewed especially girls/women

I don't think targeting girls/women to abuse from a different background be it social or ethnic is that unusual viewing people as others not the same as us not as worthy of respect is something that happens in all socities this was in such a large scale and was known about for years it's just utterly appalling

Hang on a sec ... this is the guy who was reported to have said:

Yep, he was expelled from the Lib Dems for making dodgy claims of racism online too. He's also led a hate campaign against the (Muslim) co-founder of the Qillam campaign against extremism.

He gives a sympathetic sound bite occasionally, but he is mainly concerned with peddling a Muslim victim narrative.

Incidentally it's been confirmed today that one of the victims in this case has accused a Labour councillor of rape and there may be further charges now this case has finished.

I'm relieved at the severity of the sentencing

But they will very likely be eligible for release after serving half their sentences. So 35 years = 17.5 years

Am so sick of this. It feels like a fucking epidemic at the moment. And I'm not just talking about the Pakistani groups. Reading the reports about the Saville enquiry and how the girls who reported abuse were dismissed at silly little girls and nuisances. It's just widespread across all sections of society. Young girls are targeted as they're vulnerable and have no voice and won't be believed when they have the courage to do so.

I can only hope that ALL these cases will mean that young girls will be taken more seriously when they come forward to the authorities in the future...

And I also hope that there is some kind of psychological support for the victims as the effect of this kind of abuse is lifelong.

However, I doubt it. Convictions are not enough.

Some men and some women are unspeakable pigs. Paedophiles.

They can hide behind all religions and none. They can be educated and I'm highly paid professions or none.

There is no pattern or a typical.

We all need to listen, and think the unthinkable.
