Music teacher - strong body odour

Hello,

This is my first post so and I wasn't sure if this was the correct topic to post a new thread. 🙂

My dd (14) told me that her last two music lessons have been unpleasant as her teacher has developed awful body odour. The lessons are in a purpose built shed at the end of his garden so smallish space and no ventilation in the colder months. She enjoys her weekly lessons and wants to continue with this teacher. She said it is too difficult to hold her breath, concentrate and try to play!

I am not sure if it is best for myself or dh to talk the teacher in person or send a kind text (if possible?) to address the situation. I guess the text is a cop out and just gets the awkward face to face aspect out of the picture. How does one approach someone about this sort of thing?

All responses and advice are greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Endure the smell or change teacher.

I don't know if you can really approach her tbh . I would just find someone else.

Vapor rub under her nose?

This is a very hard thing to discuss with someone but i wpuld do it face to face and not mention your daughter.
You go in the room and you say on a couple occassions you have noticed a strong bo smell from him.

LifeofI · 23/02/2016 17:42

And make sure your daughter is not in the room when u do it

Or get a new teacher. (By far the easiest option.)

Birdsgottafly · 23/02/2016 17:44

Don't send a txt, I would address it face to face. It could be that his hygiene is off, or that he's undergoing medical treatment.

Dd dumped her woodwind teacher over this. He liked to smoke a fag on the way up the drive so when he came into the house he stank of armpit, bad breath and cigs. It was unbearable. Shame because he was nice and very skilled.
