Leaving the supermarket yesterday and had bought lots of tins for the local food bank,which has a box in the supermarket. I was putting the tins in there when the security guard popped up saying "I hope you have a receipt for them. Have you paid for them?" He was quite abrupt, then didn't want to see it but said that lots of people just take stuff to put in there.
Do people really go shoplifting for the food bank?

Well if he said that lots of people do that then maybe he would know.

Perhaps some people don't realise you have to pay to donate the items? He sounds a bit abrupt though.

Yes, but who. I thought that people shoplift because they need something for themselves, or something to sell.

Some people may want to be seen as doing a good thing by donating but dont want to be out of pocket by actually buying stuff to donate.

I dunno. I can see it as an issue actually. If the bin is in the shop you haven't actually stolen them even if you haven't paid -iirc you have to leave the shop with unpaid goods to be a shop lifter.

But then again, you have changed them from being the property of the shop yo bring the property of the food bank as they are in the bin!

It does happen.

It happens so much at our morrisons the police arrested a woman for doing it. What she didn't realise is that she was depriving the store of its own good with the intent to permanent deprive them of it, or selling it.

There fore it's theft.

People shop lift for all sorts of reasons. Needing money is just one of them.

But Katenka, this doesn't benefit the person taking it with money, other than that they feel they've given something to someone.

I can imagine people doing this, I've also seen people shoplifting out of the foodbank trolleys. I just go directly to the foodbank now, it avoids any nonsense.

I would complain, only because I don't need to be pulled up and have an issue made, in my day to day life, when all I'm doing is giving to a charity.

If there's an issue, put a sign up and the security guard does his job, no need to be in anyone's face.

I been seriously ill since November and it's only since then I've noticed that it can difficult to just go about your business, without someone bothering you or trying to cut across your path etc (my reactions are slow etc).
