To think popadoms are healthy

I've just eaten 100g of them, they are made mainly of garam flour, with a tiny amount of veg oil, salt and cumin. Grilled so not fried. That's given me 20g of protein for 300 cals and was filling.

Healthy right?

They're not the healthiest way to spunk 300 cals, but better than most of the similar alternatives (or crisps Grin)

May be good on protein (I don't know), but surely v lacking in vitamins and minerals?
100g also seems rather a lot - why did you eat so much of one thing??

Just to add, the healthiest way to use 300 cals would probably be a small piece of steamed fish and asparagus. But sod that Wink

I don't think of any single food as being 'healthy'. It's the overall balance of your diet that is healthy or otherwise. Boring, but there you go. Popadoms are lovely though, and I can eat any amount of them.

How do you know they are grilled, not fried? The only ones I've come across are fried ones. If there are heathier ones out there, then great. Point me in their direction.

Surely they are fried before you grill them? All the ones I've ever seen are (although if you made them yourself then that would probably have burned a few calories to knock off your total!).

Brush with oil, microwave for 30 seconds. Bloody lovely.

You can microwave them without any oil too - still delicious. Tip: break then in half first and place on a piece of kitchen paper. 40-50 seconds seems about right.

There's a restaurant near us where you can see the golden lovelies sitting in a dish rack in the kitchen (back door generally open). Mmmmmmmm. I love the lurid green yoghurt and god-knows-what bubblegum pink sauce they serve with them.

A tad over 300 cals I suspect.

It was 8 of them, delicious but did need some herbal tea afterwards!

They take about 15 seconds each under the grill.

no food is healthy or unhealthy per se. (coca cola, cereal bars, diet 'foods' are crap, not food)

surprised that you find poppadums filling though, I just find them to be giant crisps.

Are you talking about the small dried ones that you fry yourself or the pre-cooked ones that come in the plastic packs?

Yes the dried ones. Pre-recorded you might as well be eating crisps.

I'm trying to loose a bit of weight (only 3-4kg) and after a long gym session dinner didn't fill me so fancied something crispy to snack on that is nutrient void.

Are they the uncooked ones you're doing under the grill? I've never tried those thinking you need a vat of oil to cook them in
