To hate the term 'baby wearing'

I have a sling and I love it, and my ds loves it. But I HATE it when people call it baby wearing. Sounds to me like a fashion accessory! I carry my baby in a sling, I don't wear him!

Meh. Can't get her up about other people's choice of phrase if it isn't offensive. I use a sling and have done for 5 out of 6 kids. There are more things to get cross about.

I think it sounds a bit 'slightly Granola-life-style-supplement' stupid, if I'm honest. I carried DS around in a sling. It was practical for the tube and sneaking him into non-parent and baby cinema showings. I certainly didn't 'wear' him like a fur coat.

I agree, although can't really get particularly het up about it, but I think it's odd to make a movement out of something simple. It's because some people have a lot do time on their hands and need to make carrying their baby about an activity

The term isn't as annoying as the blanket MN suggestion to every baby related problem Wink hungry/tired/fussy/growth spurt/wonder week sling will cure all

I was only thinking this the other day. You are carrying your baby. You aren't 'wearing' him or her Hmm.

There seems to be a bit of a trend for it at the moment.

There also seems to be a trend for posters using phrases along the lines of, "Who cares?" and I can't get worked up about it." ...yet, you still waste your time reading the thread and posting on it Hmm

I'm with you OP. You are wearing a sling and carrying a baby. If you are wearing a baby and carrying a sling you've got it all wrong.

It annoys me almost as much as when people say they are going to change their babies bum. I almost feel like remarking that a bum transplant seems a bit OTT but I don't think people would get the joke.

I hate it too. I always imagine walking along with dd on my head- "wearing" her like a hat.

I hate it even more when it's "I wear baby" or "just put baby in a sling". Treat yourself to a sodding pro noun or definite article.

Baby led weaning isn't 'just finger foods'. This gets trotted out all the time and it's not accurate.

If you're talking about 'carrying your baby around in a sling or wrap' then 'baby wearing' is a lot less wordy and to the point, surely?

The whole bizarre referring to 'baby'. 'Is baby hungry? Does baby need a change? How is baby sleeping?' I just want to shout 'NOBODY PUTS BABY IN THE CORNER.'

See also people referring to me as 'mum' when addressing me, or talking about me (not to my kids). Is there a national pronoun shortage?

I get it, but don't use it. It is meant to demonstrate more than just the practical side of carrying, in that they are meant to be an extension of you while they are carried, attachment parenting style. And the carriers being more ergonomic than day a Bjorn, mean that they are carried for longer. It was coined by Sears from memory.

Seems reasonable enough to me. Wouldn't be much of a thread if everyone said 'Yeah it really pisses me off too'.
