Cannot stop procrastinating

furryblanket · 24/01/2016 14:36

I'm in a job where I get commission. Because of this it's in my interest to do my adminny/typing work during non working hours from home. I don't have to do this at all but when I'm busy I prefer to use my in-office hours for things that require being in the office so I don't waste time.
SO some weekends I have work I need to do from home. EVERY SINGLE TIME I leave it until Sunday (fine) but I spend almost all day looking at the work and then logging off and reading MN or doing other things. I always end up procrastinating so much that I never do more than 10 minutes work at a time and it takes all bloody day!
How do I stop this? (Yes, I'm doing it now)

I find it helps to do the work while someone else is also quietly working.

That article about the dark playground and the panic monster is fantastic - and perfect for procrastinating as it's so long. Even better, there are follow up articles that allow you to procrastinate even further, and the whole time you can tell yourself it's ok because you are getting to know how you tick and possibly find a solution to all this procrastination Grin

Seriously, read it. Makes so much sense!

PumpkinPie2013 · 25/01/2016 11:23

I'm a terrible procrastinator as well! No idea why because I hate last minute panic but it makes no difference!

Currently in work - it's mock exam week so no students are in. I've a million things to do but so far have done next to nothing Angry

I'd probably be more productive working at home this week (except for when I'm supervising an exam) but that won't be allowed Sad

I've recently started the 'how much can I get done in x mins ' routine which does seem to help a bit.

Well, well! A huge thank you to you, furryblanket for starting this thread! Star

I've finally, FINALLY, got around to sending that work proposal off - it's gone! It's been hanging over me like a millstone (mixed metaphors, but YKWIM!) for a couple of months - and, without this thread, I still wouldn't have done it.

I'll have lunch then I'll get round to that poster I need to finish - made a start last night!

It's all good, guys! Grin

Couple more problems dealt with - poster (sort of) done and dusted. Need to circulate it more, but that's quite easy.

Tax dealt with, so that's out of the way.

Feels a bit weird that I don't have anything urgent hanging over me. Confused

Thanks again for the thread, it's certainly helping me!

How's everyone else doing? Smile
