So I'm rubbing my hands with glee over this, as it's the first opportunity I've ever had to post in AIBU. Granted it's incredibly petty but we're both very keen to know who's in the right.

DP and I are getting ready for a (very rare) night out. I am wearing a navy blue dress but think it might be chilly where we're going so I try on a little black jacket and ask him what he thinks. DP replies "I'm sure I remember you, or someone like you saying black and blue don't go."

I make a Hmm face and say "how d'you mean someone like me?", and he replies "dunno, you or some other woman"

Now I'm not suddenly wracked with jealousy or self-doubt or anything, but I do think that he could have conceded that it sounded a little bit dodgy and worded it slightly differently.

So there you go - a very minor AIBU, but then again it seems like lots of them are. Please settle our debate!

I don't think it would bother me! He probably just meant he can't remember which woman he'd heard say it.

Goingtobeawesome · 22/01/2016 18:47

I think you're making this into something when it is nothing.

I remember wearing black and blue check trousers at 15 so they do go Grin.

spanky2 · 22/01/2016 18:47

Black and blue go. It's blue and green that don't. Actually brown and blue as well.
I dunno you or some other woman. Classic. Confused

SweetBabyJebus · 22/01/2016 18:47

YABU. Sorry.

Only1scoop · 22/01/2016 18:49

'Or someone like you' Grin

Sorry I think that's quite funny Op

TattyDevine · 22/01/2016 18:51

Its fine, don't let it ruin your evening. Re black blue green etc, depends on the tone and saturation of the colour.

Id let it slide...

RudeElf · 22/01/2016 18:52

YABU. He means a woman. Not another woman. Grin

Wishful80sMontage · 22/01/2016 18:53

'Someone like you' Hmm Id have the hump over this too

TurnOffTheTv · 22/01/2016 18:54

Don't spoil the night. I wouldn't have thought twice about it.

IronMaggie · 22/01/2016 18:56

Haha I'm looking at the responses and only reading out the ones that agree with me. Classic AIBU!

But ok ok, I'll apologise quietly and let it go. Have a good evening all!

YABU. Sorry. I wouldn't have thought twice about that!

Costacoffeeplease · 22/01/2016 18:57

I'd have laughed and then I'd rip the piss out of him at any and every opportunity for months weeks

Zippidydoodah · 22/01/2016 18:57

Nope, black jacket and navy dress don't go at all!!

Darvany · 22/01/2016 18:58

Perhaps he's been reading S&B.

Brown and blue do go, incidentally. Think of how the sky doesn't jar against mountains / dark sandy beaches.

Someone tried to tell me that green and brown don't go once. Had they never seen... a tree?

SanityClause · 22/01/2016 18:59

Tell him navy blue and black is very Parisian.

It was probably his mum that told him they didn't go.

Remind him that your not his mum.

Gatehouse77 · 22/01/2016 19:00

My DH says things like that, unintentionally. We usually just laugh about it.

As for black and blue, I was told it's a no-no because you look like a bruise!!

SanityClause · 22/01/2016 19:00

*You're

Queenbean · 22/01/2016 19:01

Are you sure it your outfit was black and blue? It wasn't cream and white?

PirateSmile · 22/01/2016 19:02

Are you sure it's black and blue, not white and gold?

HortonWho · 22/01/2016 19:02

Blue / green look fantastic together

OP I've got that Adele song stuck in my head now! For that reason alone YABU.
I'm sure he didn't mean anything by it, hope you both have a great night Wine

RonniePickering · 22/01/2016 19:27

YABU, sorry OP.

PegsPigs · 22/01/2016 19:32

Sorry YABU. I know how you have taken it but it's the sort of thing my DH would come out with and what he'd mean by it is someone like me who has an opinion on clashing colours DF I'm looking at you with your multiple shades of green
