To think Homebase are fucking useless?!

chanelnumberthree · 19/01/2016 11:34

I've ordered 2 doors from Homebase.

When I went online to make my purxhasew, the options were collect instore, or home delivery.

However collect instore was not available at any local store. Indeed I've checked every store in my county, and both neighbouring counties - all out of stock.

Ok, so I have to get home delivery. This says within 10 days. Order placed on Saturday, delivery is now going to be 3 February!

There was no option for express or next day delivery.

I have complained, the response I got was that if I wanted I could cancel my order, which I think is pretty poor.

Honestly, it's 2 fairly average internal doors, surely at least 1 store should stock them, or be able to deliver in a fortnight?!

The size I need is a standard one, it's just the door design (glazed panels) that hardly seems to be sold anywhere.

I've tried the website of a few local timbers merchants (good suggestion, thanks, I hadn't thought to look there before) but none do the doors I need.

I used to work for Homebase, as a buyer of internal doors. Due to size they keep very low stock levels and call them in from suppliers. Suppliers were never very good at anticipating demand, and things were forever on back order. Sounds like not much progress in ten odd years!

ICanSeeForMiles · 19/01/2016 17:34

Bunnings Australia is a fab company, hope it'll be the same once they take over, might even give B&Q a run for their money.

Iwanttobeadog · 19/01/2016 17:46

Have you tried argos? They sell the same shit items

chanelnumberthree · 19/01/2016 17:54

I didn't know that about Argos - had a brief moment of optimism, but looking online it appears they don't do the particular door I need either.

Is it worth looking on Amazon or eBay OP*?

chanelnumberthree · 19/01/2016 18:05

This is (hopefully) a link to the door. Tempted to offer a reward if anyone can find it in their local Homebase!

www.homebase.co.uk/en/homebaseuk/diy/doors-and-door-furniture/balmoral-8-lite-clear-glazed-knotty-pine---762mm-wide-651353

I've looked on Amazon, but couldn't find any where the delivery time was much less, and couldn't find anything on Ebay that was the right style or size.

Ha. When I tried it says "Only 0 in stock"

TheSkiingGardener · 19/01/2016 18:38

Not even available for home delivery for me and no-where in stock in store

SilverDragonfly1 · 19/01/2016 19:03

Same here (Dartford Branch). Wonder if they have been discontinued and they just haven't updated the site yet.

SayrraT · 19/01/2016 20:30

The chances of you being near me (actually my parents) is very slim but they have 2 at Robroyston and 6 at East Kilbride.

To think Homebase are fucking useless?!
chanelnumberthree · 19/01/2016 20:35

Well at least it's not just me that can't locate it.

OP posts:
chanelnumberthree · 19/01/2016 20:36

Ah, spoke too soon!

Sadly that's literally the other end of the country to me :)

If the doors you want aren't in stock then source them from somewhere else :/

chanelnumberthree · 19/01/2016 20:44

They aren't described as being out of stock though...it says there are none at my nearest store (and apparently at other people's as well - except in Scotland) - the website offered the option of home delivery WITHIN 10 days, except now I'm being told at least 2 weeks.

I have tried to locate them elsewhere, most places don't sell them. Wickes sell them in the wrong size, no other DIY store sells them, nor do local timber merchants. I can get them on Amazon but barely any quicker than I can from Homebase, so not worth it, same with other 'specialist' online retailers. So sourcing them somewhere else isn't as easy as it may sound!

I have no idea why it's so difficult, they're just fairly ordinary doors...

OP posts:
rosewithoutthorns · 19/01/2016 20:47

Well they are definitely out of stock in your area aren't they. Why should they bring them up from Scotland for you :))) It would probably cost them more to do that than the actual doors are worth.

Emochild · 19/01/2016 20:51

Also used to work for homebase and agree they are shite

The door situation has been a problem for years -we used to get a whole pallet delivered but they were on automatic order and would only reorder when we had zero

Then the company that delivered them wouldn't deliver until we had X amount of £s on order

Was the bane of my life

rosewithoutthorns · 19/01/2016 21:00

All large companies like this are shite. They pay their workers shite. Therefore it stands to reason.

chanelnumberthree · 19/01/2016 21:03

If they don't want to bring them from Scotland Hmm...assuming of course those are the only 2 doors left in the entire country (unlikely) then they shouldn't be for sale on the website!

And in any event, they should be capable of getting them from Scotland (again, in the unlikely situation they are the only 2 doors left in existence) in 10 days, given you can get things from other continents in less than a week!

Emochild, sounds like that ridiculous policy still exists.

Honestly, if I could get them anywhere quicker, I'd cancel and go there.

OP posts:
chanelnumberthree · 19/01/2016 21:05

I've generally had positive experiences with other large companies- no such delivery issues with the major online retailers, nor other DIY stores like B&Q or Wickes.

I did once get screamed and sworn at by a member of staff in one such store but thankfully that was an isolated incident...

OP posts:
CakeRavager · 19/01/2016 21:14

The website claims there are 2 in Warwick. However, I know from experience that, despite this, it doesn't mean that when you get there they will actually have the item.

GiddyOnZackHunt · 19/01/2016 23:31

I had a look earlier and it is indeed looking tricky to get matching doors from a retailer for under £100.

How many of the original doors do you have? Might it be simpler to replace them with something that you can source from a timber merchant reliably?

chanelnumberthree · 19/01/2016 23:40

I have 4 other doors in this style (including a set of French doors) so not really practical, and certainly not affordable to replace them all!

Plus anything at timber merchants (round here anyway) seems to be way more expensive than the big DIY chains, like £200+ per door.

Looks like I'll have to put up with the delays, if my complaint doesn't get anywhere, and hope in the meantime my builder doesn't get too fucked off by having to wait around to finish the job.

Staffs here. OOS within a 20 mile radius.

They are shit though, and their reserve and collect doesnt work either.
