To not realise that I could start a (very small) fire?

DH is a bit miffed because I turned on the electric heater. It started pouring out smoke shortly afterwards. Fire alarm worked well, unfortunately we were just putting the DC to bed.
Think one of them may have posted something that landed on the heating element and combusted.
I had no idea that there was anything in there.
Still stinks in the sitting room, acrid would be an apt description. Nothing else happened, I just switched it off at the wall and opened the window.
AIBU to think that this could not have been predicted? DH seems to think I am.....

Nope, I can't see how you'd have predicted that.

As you're not psychic and it is a small electrical appliance designed for use in the home, I'm not sure how you could have been expected to think that would happen.

This is precisely why you have smoke alarms :)
