There is a grown man who sweats a lot under his arms.

The good thing is he changes his t shirt several times a day. The bad thing is he leaves his sweaty t shirts to dry by draping them over furniture, on the bed, on the bath, ironing board - wherever he can find room. Then when it's dry he will put the t shirt back on.

AIBU in thinking this is gross and he should know better?

Depends if he has access to adequate washing facilities and if he was brought up without learning how to wash stuff and combat body odour etc.

If you're in a position to kindly point out that doing what he does will not help the situation then do so.

Depends if his sweat is clean or not.

Change his diet, get him plenty of new tshirts, so there will be enough to change in rather than just picking the sweaty ones again

I remember being told years ago by my mother tha sweat evaporates and so, as long as it was 'clean sweat' and adequately aired you could reuse.

I wasn't sure about this but years ago was at a concert in Royal Albert Hall in height of a heat wave, my outfit was soaked with sweat by the end of it. I hung it up in the bathroom overnight - it was fine.

Reusing them OK if they don't smell.

Is there somewhere to put an airer-spare room, over the bath?

Or get him to buy more & put sweaty one in washbox when he changes.

Is he washing regularly? Clean sweat isn't too offensive.

Has he tried different deodorants? Try some Driclor or similar medicated deodorant from the chemist, rather than basic roll ons. If it's becoming a problem then he might need to see a GP.

Sweat is sweat. When it dries it becomes stale, and that's when it really honks. There is no such thing as "clean" sweat.

If you've ever exercised you know when your sweaty face has dried, there's a residue of salt left over (eg if you lick your lips).

Surely this is what happens with your clothes.
It is the water which evaporates not all of the sweat. So if you rehang your clothes post sweat then wear them, they will not be clean.

If your healthy and clean your sweat doesn't carry out impurities and dirt that is in your skin so the sweat is relatively clean.
It's why some sweat doesn't smell.

Buy a clothes drying rack, put it somewhere and tell him to use it. Leaving sweaty clothes hanging over furniture (especially upholstered pieces) is disgusting.

The most common reason people have BO or smell isn't bodily hygiene, it's because they don't clean their clothes enough. This is particularly true with the elderly.

A stale, dirty smell around a person is usually failure to clean clothes.

So no you arent being unreasonable and this man is indeed gross.

I had a housemate who did this - he absolutely stank, as did his room.

He also seemed to eat a diet of pure lard & produced the most revolting huge stinky pale floating poos which would not flush away, & which he kindly left for the next person to deal with

Botox can be used to treat such heavy sweating. Would he consider this?
