To buy a light weight double buggy even though eldest child is nearly 3?

Eldest will be 3 in a month.

Am I awful for not making him walk everywhere? He does walk a little bit is obviously much slower and gets tired and can throw horrific tantrums

I suffer lots of joint, arm, shoulder, hand and knee pain and we live in a hilly area.

Youngest child is 12 months.

Is it madness to buy a light weight double?

I will sell it on but what is the general view on a 'almost' 3 year old still in a buggy when they have no walking issues, other than convenience for mum?

I will have a three yo and newborn in April and I am wondering if I am silly for not buying a double buggy. I wouldn't judge or think anything of it.

I think the people that scream about it generally drive everywhere Grin DD was out of a buggy permanently at 18 months. But she was a walker. If yours isn't and you have to get around, you could. Would have been a waste of money for me. How long do you think you'll use it for?

A buggy board would be brilliant but apparently they can't be fitted to icandy prams. Sad

I think just as dd turned 1 she has a solid little thing. Ds is 3 almost and along with the weight of the double icandy, it's back breaking.

Am now wondering if there isn't a buggy board somewhere that would fit!

YADNBU.

Two year 9 month between my two. Buying a tandem was a no-brainer as eldest alternated between bolting and dawdling. And he would still nap at times when we were out for long stretches, can't nap on a buggy board.

Used it until I could no longer push the combined weight when DC1 was around 3 1/2 - but I have heavy children. Grin

Do what suits you op it's noones business but yours.

However double buggies are heavy to push. Will you manage it?

I found a buggy board a killer for my back.

Don't worry what other people think.

Get the double (anything too lightweight will be a bugger to push though - look for something like a nipper 360 second hand)

Ah, just seen your update and seen you've hit the combined weight problem already.

As your youngest is over six months I would look for a lightweight tandem, you might find the weight differential a problem with a side-by-side. And put the older one in the back, it makes it easier to push and get up kerbs. :-)

No No! A side by side with air tyres (like a nipper or mountain buggy) is much more light to push than something like a tandem (I have had both)

this was with a near 4 year old and a baby - and I have since used it with 2 much bigger kids!

I would think that with your various joint pains , you really don't want to be pushing a double buggy up and down hills.

Second the nipper 360! Just bought One (2nd hand, 80 quid) for my 2 who are exactly the same age as yours and it steers like a dream!! And I mean better than my single mountain buggy... I love it! Smile We walk everywhere, including to do the food shopping (big shop delivered but everything else on foot) and tbf I'm buggered if I'm going everywhere at the speed of a pootling 3yr old - we've got places to be! And if they end up asleep at any punt can always duck into a cafe for an impromptu chillax.... Win-win! Grin

And BTW - stuff what anyone else thinks?!?

I bought a mclaren double buggy for my just turned 3 yr old and a new born. My yougest was still using a buggy sometimes till around 5 so you could get some use out of it yet. Depends on your children and your lifestyle. I like an easy life and if a buggy helps - great.

Go for it.

Can you take your DC to a shop and test drive some? Then go home and buy a secondhand one on eBay. They're usually pretty cheap and in good condition.

And double second (??) the pp who said avoid an online buggy in your circs - I got rid of my Phil&Ted's for that reason, was a real struggle to wrestle it around corners and kerbs.... Don't do it!!

Ours was about £80 secondhand too, when we eventually sold it, we got £80 for it!!

I was surprised at how easy it was to push compared to the Phil and Teds and the singles we had, the narrowest of the side by sides too and easy to fold.

Hopefully it won't be needed for too long.

I had a 37 month age gap and a Phil and ted's tandem double. My youngest was born in the October and the p&t was worth its weight in gold that first winter. I didn't need it for long, but for 6 months it was super useful for getting dc1 to nursery , he also still liked a nap in the day when we were out. I bought it on eBay and sold it a year later for £7 less than I paid for it. A buggy board would not have worked as dc1 is very tall, and it's very hilly round here. I borrowed one to try, not for us.

The large version of the buggy board (can't remember the make) fitted on my icandy pear. Icandy says no buggy board, but John Lewis advised :)

But personally I hated the damn buggy board & should have bought a double buggy!

If you look on Lascal's website they have a buggyboard compatibility section. from a quick look it appears that their buggyboard is compatible with most icandys. Which is yours?

I 3rd the nipper 360! I've got the single and it's brill, am getting the double as I will have a 19 month gap between my youngest. The single you can push with one hand, it turns on a sixpence (if that's a phase) it's so easy and loads of storage in hood and underneath. Also it's that string I pushed my 12 year old in it for a laugh Blush if I can push her it must be good, she weighs 7 stone! Lol

I have a buggy board attached to my icandy Apple, works well. I also have a seat pod (forget the name) that attaches along side my pram but can easily be removed. It is quite hard to steer with it but my toddler loves it for when he wants a sit down/ or a sleep Smile

I had a double buggy for my two but now my oldest just walks.
She's almost 3 but I would still happily put her in a buggy if I could

My friend was chatting to me about not liking seeing children that can walk being pushed around in a pram, she hasn't children so I set her straight very quickly. If it works for you then go for it. If people judge then bugger them it's not like they have to ferry about two children under 3! I wish mine would get into a pram, alas no joy.
