WIBU to disable my neighbour's security light?

Did you ask them to adjust the settings/ sensitivity?

Sort of lighthearted... Compounded by the fact it is my in-laws house!

Will ask DH to sort it tomorrow, this never used to happen and the light hasn't been changed to my knowledge, so maybe they've altered the setting.

Last year it was their dog outside all night barking that kept me awake. That doesn't happen now as I think other neighbours complained about the dog, so they take it inside at night.

The lighting issue only affects us though, as it shines right into our bedroom.

Have they got something in the garden that is setting it off. Even in windy weather trees don't normally activate a light unless it is directly opposite.

Could possibly be a branch off a shrub, it's flippin' annoying now.

I hate them with a passion. Three people across the road from me have them.

One guy has his not angled down at all, comes on during the day in winter, cars driving down the road set it off and it stays on for 5 mins.

I plan to go over and tweak down the sensitivity, light sensor and time out next time its foggy. He's refused to change it and says it's needed for security. Even though its awful for security as its on all the fucking time. He has video cameras so I'm waiting for a thick fog.

I didn't disable it. I put an eye mask on and eventually fell asleep. Feel knackered this morning, just got woken by a huge delivery van in the road.

Know the feeling well OP, but its not as bad for me. Neighbour across the road had a security light type thing, its like a wall light by his back door and goes off on a sensor. Its not too bright but it does light up my bedroom, not too bright but you can tell when its on. I have lined curtains and blinds in my bedroom but you can still see it.

It only comes on for about 3 - 4 seconds but on windy days it can switch on about 6 times a minute, which is 360 times an hour, not that I have lay in bed and timed it or anything. It does drive me batty when I cant sleep. Anything sets it off, wind, cars, people farting in bed... anything. I dont see the point in it because he never comes out and checks when the light goes off.

I am waiting for the fog then I am going to spray paint the lens black.

I havent spoken to him as its not really an issue, just slightly annoying.

Can you ask them to alter the sensors as something is clearly setting it off for no reason, possibly a tree branch or a bush waving in the wind? Cats also used to set mine off when I had one. Failing that, can you ask them to use a lower watt bulb in it?

Maybe spiders are setting it off? Give it a good brush.

I hate those bloody lights. They are always too bright, meaning that most of a garden is in black shadow, making it easier for undesirables to hide. They block out starlight and can be very distracting to drivers. I keep braking when I am reversing into my drive because our neighbour across the road's light looks as bright as oncoming car headlights.

Xmas was the first time I'd seen them to chat to since Sept; popping across is strongly discouraged (by me!).

Security lights are a massive pain. Our neighbour behind has one that stays on for hours and shines directly into our bedroom windows. We have blackout curtains AND blinds.

Hope you can talk to them and get it sorted....

Otherwise you can report them to the council for light pollution

September til December you didn't see your in-laws once and the live across the road?! That's extreme.. I saw mine more than that and they live five hours north!
