Okay so I don't know much about these at all but I know it's illegal to smoke them say indoors in a restaurant for example.

I have worked in hospitality since before the smoking ban and have never seen it flaunted BUT a few times lately I have 'caught' customers smoking / vaping / ecigging on tables when the restaurant it quiet.

I've said nothing but I am a bit :-o this isn't right surely?? I don't know if I should say something or just ignore.

If you see a customer vaping, you say that it isn't allowed inside the premises, and that they come under the same law as cigarettes. If they kick off, thell them to fuck off out of the premises.

We cant be sure what is in these e cigs and what the long term health effects are because much like botox e cigs havent been around long enough.

Crankycunt, you are wrong. They are definitely NOT illegal and are not covered by smoking laws (because it ISN'T smoking).

Ah sorry I must be wrong as I thought they were covered by normal smoking ban! Whenever I go over to the table people look really shifty and hide them so I just kind of assumed, I will check our policy with my manager (large pub chain).

They are not illegal in public places but if the landlord of whoever in charge wishes not have such things in public on thier property then people should respect the rules.

I would make the stinky, horrible smells illegal though. Vile strawberry and repulsive vanilla. Yuck. The vaping; don't care and let the people I teach do it in class.

Unless there is a sign someone the customers technically aren't doing anything wrong. Although, as someone who has started baking to quit smoking, I wouldn't ever do this indoors.

Surely if you thought it was illegal you would have said something to them or your manager.

It is not illegal but many places have rules that they cannot be used indoors as not enough is known about the vapour expelled.

I'd check the policy with the manager.

It is up to the premises, I can't see why you would go out of your way to enforce this though, unless you had a thing about it. It's not covered by smoking legislation and it is pretty harmless (the vapour is to others).

Indoor bans split between scientists and ideologists. Cancer researchers get my vote.

OP, as others have said, vaping indoors is not illegal but companies are free to ban it if they want. ASH have produced some useful guidance here.

Really though, it doesn't sound like they're doing any harm or bothering anybody. They're discreetly vaping when the pub is quiet, not blowing big clouds over people trying to eat. It seems a bit mean to make a problem of it when it needn't be. Some of them are likely to have recently quit smoking or be in the process of quitting. Sending them out to stand with the smokers, especially when they've been drinking, could make it very hard for them to resist relapse.

Sales to under 18s have been illilegal since Sept 2015 and I for one am mightily fed up that our 16 year old bought vaping machine and nicotine based vaping liquid with ease from shop in Kingston (who apparently didn't ask for ID) and now appears to be addicted. Yes, it may be better for health than cigs but it's expensive and he'a now smoking those too! Aaargh!
