To wonder if this is a scam?

Got a card posted through the door tonight when I was in. It had on the envelope a short version of my name which no-one calls me e.g. Jo for Joanne. Inside it said from Stephen something that you can't make out. Hope yar well Need to catch up soon for a chat!!! All the best 2016 Call me 07999 xxxxxx

Have no idea who the person is and no-one calls me Jo so suspect it is a scam. Googled the number but nothing much came up about it and nothing about scams involving christmas cards.

Any ideas? Thanks.

Definitely not for previous occupants as have been here a long time and also know their names. I don't know how to do a Facebook search - not on FB but will try!

Theres the bit of me that thinks 99% it must be a scam but how can they know my name and hand deliver it to my door? Must be a costly scam timewise. I live in the suburbs!

It's probably just been posted through the wrong door. Just ignore it. Lots of people called Jo.

Jo was just an example. It was hand posted through my door and none of my neighbours are called the name on it. It wasn't posted through the wrong door.

Tried the FB search and nothing came up. Sure it is dodgy just don't see how it can work.

We got a card addressed to first names only at this address. Thing is, we have been here for over 2 years, the previous 2 Christmases no such card.

No return address so ignored it.

If your first name is relatively common it could just be a coincidence.

Actually Booyaka I am wondering now if you're right and someone has just got totally the wrong address! Am going to give up and not waste any more time thinking about it. Just thought lots of people might say ... oh I've had that... it was a number in Timbuktu that charged bucket loads :)

I did think about calling from my work tomorrow but worried that if it is a big bill I will get in trouble! Think I will just bin it because if its a scam I don't want to respond and if its not then it definitely can't be for me as I don't know any guys his name or anyone who calls me that name!

When SIL lived with us, certain debt collection agencies would do postcards that looked personal to try and get her to ring them, but don't remember any Christmas cards. Probably just the wrong address.

Just ignore it. If it's legit and they really want a chat they'll find a way. And if you don't hVe a clue who it's from you can't want to speak to them that badly anyway.

There are some scams that get you to ring a number, but the call costs you £300+

Don't call it, just ignore.

The likelihood of it being a mistake depends on how rare your name is I would think. For example, if your name is Susan and the short version Sue - well there are loads of Sues, so it was probably meant for someone else. On the other hand, if your name was Rainbow (i.e. v unusual) and the short version Rain, then I don't see how it can be a mistake.

I qite suspicious but I think it's more likely it's just be posted through the worng door. Maybe it should be for somebody in the next street. I can't think these scams work like this.

Thanks, my name is a bit dated (60s child) - a bit like Susan/Sue and can also be male or female so am now thinking that its just a coincidence that they got the correct name through the wrong door.

The searches I did seem to suggest that 07999 numbers are normal mobile numbers and I think if it was a dodgy number it would have come up.

07999 is just a normal numbers. Why dont you just text them and find out who they are.

Doesn't really sound like a scam with it being hand posted and a mobile number. I'd probably text them asking who it was.
