My DP does that too and it seems to be inherited as ds1 (14) puts empty bottles back in the fridge

Which is more evil - putting empty pots/jars etc back in the cupboard, or leaving just the tiniest scrap ("But it's not empty!") and putting it back? Or the subset of the latter behaviour - leaving half a sheet of loo roll clinging to the cardboard tube, so you haven't finished the roll and are therefore not responsible for changing it?

Dh and my kids do the same and it drives me mad. Also empty wrappers etc. All deny it if course. ...

You can all borrow my DP if you like. He usually has about 2 or 3 open jars of the same thing on the go. Our fridge and cupboards are stuffed full of duplicates!

My Dad does this and it drives my Mum nuts. Whatever it is, most normal people would consider it empty, but he will always mither on about how there's "a scrape" left. No, there isn't.
Then he will save all the pots and put things in the recycling that he knows can't be recycled.
My dh doesn't do this, but only because he is completely incapable of putting anything back in the cupboard.

I have extra stuff. What drives me mad is DH will open the next one before the first one is finished.

SDTG My dh does that. It drives me crackers. A tiny dribble of milk left (not enough for a brew), a smear of butter that would cover a 1cm square area of toast at best. ARGH!

People have died for less.

Worse still is when you go to the bother of using the last scrapings of butter to make sure it's all used up, go to open the new one and discover that DH someone has already hacked a big chunk out of it because they couldn't be arsed to finish the old one first.

Yup dh does this. I went out last night and told him to help himself to the children kiev and chips in the freezer. Got a phone call to say that what was actually in the freezer was an empty box of kievs and 3 oven chips left in the packet. Hopefully that'll teach him but I doubt it!

DP is the opposite, if there isn't much left in a packet he'll start a new one, without using up the old one
So when I'm doing a shopping list and I have a quick glance in the freezer for example I think 'oh there's two bags of chips, don't need those' meal plan, come to cook and there's 7 chips in each bag! Why? Just why?!
He leaves all doors and cupboards open too, always!

The males in my house have a way of taking the last paracetamol and putting the packet back. I therefore don't buy any replacements, and they wonder why there's nothing there next time they get a hangover have a headache.

YANBU - and putting empty sweet wrappers back in the tin.

My dh did this too. Then I realised that the problem was that, when he left things, the mysterious 'housework fairy' took them away and replaced them with full things. Once I'd shot her the problem stopped although he was confused for a while that the pickle/ketchup/shampoo hadn't regrown overnight.
