To ignore the min fill on a kettle

I mean .7l is too much if just one person wants 175ml for a cup of tea. Is it going to blow up?

Mine did Blush

Min fill of 0.7l is very high. Don't ignore min fill its there for a reason. Buy a new kettle and complain to the manufacturer.

Me624 · 30/11/2015 08:17

I am the opposite. Live in a hard water area = mugful of limescale if you only fill it up to the minimum. DH always moans at me for wasting water by filling the kettle half full for one cup of tea but he doesn't drink it so doesn't appreciate the limescale grossness!

PaulAnkaTheDog · 30/11/2015 08:36

Does it not wreck the element ?

cdtaylornats · 30/11/2015 08:38

If your just making 1 cup why not put it in the microwave?

VulcanWoman · 30/11/2015 08:43

Yes, I'd say it would wreck the element, it needs to be covered with the water.

I know what you mean though, it's a waste of electric. A while back I saw a smaller kettle, or what about one of those travel kettles.

raranah · 30/11/2015 08:43

The element is concealed, microwave?!? Eww

Here is an Eco Kettle from Argos. 1 cup boil.

get one of those one cup fill machines - I got one for my parents' birthdays (they're a week apart and yes it's what they wanted!). It's a great wee machine, cheap to run (cheaper than boiling the kettle on min fill), filters the water and on days when one of them is in the house alone, they're not wasting water, although it may have upped their tea consumption...

VulcanWoman · 30/11/2015 08:48

It still needs to cover the bottom though and up the sides slightly. Goes black else.

As an aside - we also suffer from really bad linescalw so have a water filter and only use that in the kettle, the iron and the steam mop.

Helps enormously.
