What the hell can I do about this?! (Asda delivery)

Ordered a home delivery shop yesterday to arrive today. I'm having some problems following my c section 3 months ago, and I just couldn't face carrying shopping etc as my stomach is quite painful.

Just had an email to say the order has been cancelled and to phone to ask why. So I did, and they've said "the bank never got back to us in time to secure the payment". The money was there, I made sure of it before I ordered, but now it's not showing in my bank, so I can't even go shopping now!! There's no food in the house, so what the hell do I do?!! Asda say it's nothing to do with them. Can't even phone the bank cos it's dh's card and he won't be able to phone until after work now.

I feel so low this morning and have been very tearful anyway, and this has just tipped me over the edge :(

Although it's Asdas fault for having a crappy system, they do not have your money and there is nothing they can do to get it back to you any quicker unfortunately (I've dealt with this for a living!).

Whenever you make a debit card payment, there is a quick back and forth between your bank and the sellers bank to make sure that you actually have the money needed (this is why nowhere will just take £1 off, they need to know if you have the full amount).

What should happen is that the next message sent is 'yep, payment good to go send the goods' BUT sometimes your bank does not send that message to the seller, it takes too long to load or whatever. Here the seller does not get your money, on their end it says FAILED PAYMENT and that's the end of that.

Your bank still has 'ringfenced' the money waiting for the sellers bank to take it but this never happens, and so after 3 days or so your bank will put the funds back into your available balance. It's crap, but it's no good complaining about the customer service because there is nothing they can do. They could send you some money, but then after 3 or so days you would have 2 lots of money.

So I emailed Asda on Friday to complain, and they've left me a voicemail saying they've credited my online account with a £10 evoucher. There was no explanation of what the hell happened; why I was told order cancelled, why it did turn up etc. Also, it's a £25 minimum spend online, so I'd need to still spend money to be able to get the £10 evoucher. Bit of a joke really!

I'm so glad to hear you did get the shopping after all. I'm going to avoid asda after hearing some of the stories about problems like this.
