to take my 3 DC swimming alone?

My DC are just turned 8, just turned 4 and 3 months. I take them swimming most weekends, usually alone. My 8 yo has passed all his swim stages and 100 m badge. My 4 yo is very cautious and obedient and baby is happy so long as she's held. 4 yo has sensory issues so won't wear arm bands and a couple of people commented today that it's dangerous for me to take three kids alone (before we even got in the pool!) I thought taking three kids swimming with no tears was an achievement but am prepared to be told I ABU.

They don't even allow it in our local
Pool.

The pool may not allow you to take 3 DC on your own. You should probably check with them first.

Gatehouse77 · 14/11/2015 22:46

Before this new rule, which I believe is no more than 2 under 8years so you should be fine, I would take my 3 when they were all under 5!

So, no YANBU

fiftyandfat · 14/11/2015 22:46

Oh - I just realised you already take them.
Most pools I have been to allow 2 children per adult.

grumpysquash · 14/11/2015 22:48

In our pool you can take two under-8 non swimmers per adult. If you also have a competent 8 year old, that's fine (8yo is really not going to need help in the pool).
It's working for you - don't let people put you off!

Pipestheghost · 14/11/2015 22:48

only you really know if you can manage them.

Allyoucaneat · 14/11/2015 22:49

It wouldn't be allowed at our local pool the ratio is 1:1 for under 4s and 2:1 for under 8s.

My DS was a competent swimmer at 4, he's never worn armbands and knows his own abilities so won't go out of his depth. He has weekly lessons.

If you feel confident, its nobody elses business. Enjoy.

Artandco · 14/11/2015 22:49

I would. I have taken mine on together since I had two. So 17 months and 2 month old in together. They have been with dh or I usually alone with them both since then. We swim 2-3 evenings a week. Now youngest is 4 and I would be very happy to take another two in as both my two are confident swimmers now

YANBU. I take three under eight plus two older. I lie about their ages. We only go in the toddler pool, not the big pool and I feel safe doing it because they all stay close to me and are basically just paddling.

mrtwitsglasseye · 15/11/2015 00:10

The rule here is two children under eight per adult. Eight and over may be unaccompanied. I won't let my nine year old go unaccompanied, however, I am happy to take all five in the little pool.
