perhaps 3/4/5 years ago - a woman who's DM had died and she was forever having upsetting thoughts.

She said she had discovered a 'therapy' and within hours/days of doing it she no longer had these bad thoughts that she'd been having for years.

I'd really like to use that 'therapy' to lay to rest some persistent thoughts I keep having and would prefer not to.

CBT?

hefzi · 12/11/2015 00:50

If not CBT, which is really useful for intrusive thoughts, maybe EFT? I haven't tried it, but it's also supposed to work for dealing with unwanted thoughts, I think.

CheesyNachos · 12/11/2015 05:29

Do you know he show it was on? If Woman's Hour, I think they have years worth of shows stored as podcasts.

LaLaLaaaa · 12/11/2015 06:15

Sounds like CBT. That's what I use for anxiety

Bumshkawahwah · 12/11/2015 06:25

I'm presuming not the same one, but there was a Woman's Hour on pretty recently - in the last month or two - talking about and interviewing people with intrusive, upsetting thoughts and they said it was a form of OCD. I can't remember what the solution was, but you should be able to find the podcast.

Bumshkawahwah · 12/11/2015 06:33

The one I'm thinking of was one of the late night women's hour shows, on thoughts:

No, but could be EFT or EMDR?

DearPrudence · 12/11/2015 06:44

Didn't hear it but my guess would be EMDR based on the speed of response.

TeaStory · 12/11/2015 06:54

Sounds like EMDR.

Footle · 12/11/2015 07:07

EDMR is the one where you tap your head isn't it ?

TeaStory · 12/11/2015 08:33

Tap your head? No - the "EM" stands for "eye movement". You track something moving from side to side with your eyes, often a light bar.

Guiltypleasures001 · 12/11/2015 08:48

EMDR eye movement desensitization reprocessing mainly used for PTSD and trauma survivors.

TattieHowkerz · 12/11/2015 23:29

EFT is the tapping one.

Footle · 12/11/2015 23:43

Thanks for EFT info - it was highly recommended by someone very sensible.

wasonthelist · 13/11/2015 00:07

Paul Mckenna is an advocate of a variation of this - dunno if it works, but it's in one of his books.

Wow, I've learned something new tonight thanks to this thread. Very interesting Smile
