... When my dh uses the Hoover to clean up his DIY after sanding etc?

Just got a new vax Hoover this year as our dyson gave up. It looks like an old Hoover now and if covered in plaster dust inside and out. I just came home planning to Hoover the house and now it needs cleaned first.

I have told him to get a cheapie Hoover to keep in the garage for this stuff. Yes I am glad he is cleaning up after himself but it's just more work for me now.... Grrrr

I assume he is cleaning the hoover!

Maverick66 · 08/11/2015 16:32

He needs a Henry vacuum for this job. It is the workhorse of all vacuums!

A Hoover is to hoover up mess surely?

As long as he isn't trying to hoover up big bits which will block it, and he is emptying it if full I really can't see a problem.

Spidertracker · 08/11/2015 16:36

A vacuum cleaner is a vacuum cleaner, we have one that was £25 from Argos, it cleans everything, it gets emptied and occasionally wiped over.
I can't get precious about plaster and sawdust.

raviolidreaming · 08/11/2015 16:41

YANBU. The fine dust from sanding blocks the filters and wrecks vacuum cleaners!

AliceInUnderpants · 08/11/2015 16:47

As long as he cleans out the filters etc afterwards, it shouldn't be too big an issue.

By the way a Hoover is a Hoover. A Vax or a Dyson is a vacuum cleaner. Hoover is a brand, not an appliance.

Sparkygal · 08/11/2015 17:03

His way of cleaning the hoover is a quick wipe down on the outside and emptying it. I usually clean the cable, properly clean the outside etc.

I know it's not a massive deal, but it definitely contributed to our last hoover breaking down.

He did help this time - think he realised I was on the verge of a meltdown!

P.s. I do realise that Hoover is a brand but everyone calls a vacuum cleaner 'the hoover' where I live.

If he doesn't have an alternative, what do you expect him to do?

You need to speak to him and come up with a solution

My husband has a garage vacuum cleaner but there is now so much of his clutter in there as well as in the rest of the house that he takes the house one in there & uses that as he can't get to his own without moving tons of stuff Angry

SquinkiesRule · 08/11/2015 18:41

Vacuuming up all that stuff will block up the hoses and filters.
My Dh has a wet/dry vac for the garage and building projects, works great an leaves the house vac for doing carpets working better.
