He was trying to sell me windows. The conversation went like this -

Him: What colour are your windows?

Me: Orange

Him: Orange?

Me: Yes

Him: What material are they, wood or PVC?

Me: Plastic

Him : Right. And would you have orange windows again or something different?

Me: I'd probably go for blue

Him: Blue? Why is that?

Me: I like blue

Him: OK. So would you like us to give you a free quote?

Me: Nah, your alright

WIBU to be a very unhelpful potential customer?

How odd. What's wrong with good old 'Yes', 'No' or in extreme circumstances 'Fuck Off'.
You do realise you're not under any obligation to be any sort of customer?

Me: I don't have any Windows.

I once let a guy try to sell me a conservatory, oh how we laughed when he realised I lived in a rented second floor flat, well I did, he hung up.

Makes me feel better about telling the woman from "Windows Technical Support" to piss off this morning. To be fair, DH is in hospital having an operation today, it is enough having to deal with the legitimate calls and texts without spam calls as well!

I never have the energy to argue with cold callers. I usually just hang up and block their number.

Don't know why OP got a biscuit for that, I thought it was quite funny. Cold callers for windows are fair game in my book.

After what felt like several hundred calls form the "Microsoft" people I lost my rag once, and yelled "FFS why do you keep calling?! Everyone knows this is a scam" (sadly, I'm not sure that's true, but I certainly know it's a scam).

They've not called since.

My dad loves to tell window sales people that if only they called a week earlier as he has just arranged with some other company to replace all 208 large windows on his mansion....

On Tuesday:

CC: Hi, I'm just calling to check that you received your £500 voucher in the post
OB: For what?
CC: Your replacement windows and doors
OB: I didn't order any
CC: No, but if you do we will give you £500 off
OB:OK... but...
CC: No, really, just confirm your address
OB: But you phoned me... Don't you know?
CC: Well..
OB: Mind you if you did you'd know the house is listed. Can you... hello.. hello?
CC: .......

And as every single house in the land is listed somewhere, that is a truth anyone can tell them. Works on the solar bods, Sky discounters, driveway people, everyone!

I just do the 'little old lady' bit and tell them pathetically that my husband deals with all that. My DH pretends to be very deaf .
Childish I know but it keeps them on the line and wastes the cost of their phone calls (a bit). If they use my mobile I just cut them off and block the number

When they call (and they do, they do), I just very sympathetically tell them that we're on the telephone preference service and their records must be out of date. And hang up.

We are on the telephone preference service and we shouldn't be getting the calls, but it doesn't seem to filter everything.

I do have sympathy for them. It must be a soul-destroying job. No need to be rude unless they're rude to me.

Moonax, I used to do the same. Until one rang back and told me I had been incredibly rude to suggest he didn't know how to do his job. So I let loose and told him what I thought of his precious job... and put the phone down.

He rang back to remonstrate with me about putting the phone down and my DH had the pleasure of telling him to fuck of. My email of complaint was ignored.

So now I amuse myself in other ways... "Sorry dear, I died last Tuesday" is the next on my list!

@OurBlanche - if that happened, then you bet your best boots I'd do the same! Awful behaviour.

Ah ha! I have just used the above line, more replacement windows, not quite a cold call just a survey you understand? The woman on the phone laughed and wished me a good weekend

Now my dilemma is, do I keep using that line or do I need a new one?

Someone called and asked if I was the home owner.
I said the building society would probably say they were.
She said she would take me off her list as I was not the owner.

Result!

I told the last double glazing person who rang up that yes, we'd be very interested in them coming out - did they do large houses?

He got quite excited and asked for our address.

Our address? Yes, in Bedfordshire in a village called Woburn - Woburn Abbey, you can't miss it, it's next door to the safari park.

He hung up!
