OK so its Bonfire Night so I want our kitty in the house tonight.

Get home find him outside. Its 5pm fireworks are already going off.
Normally he follows me/us. Tonight I have to call him. He doesnt come

I go to get him and he claws me.

When indoors he paws at windows and doors to get out ?! WTF?

He is just being a cat. As they say 'dogs have masters, cats have servants.'

Regardless of you wanting to do the best for him, he wants to do what he wants to do.

ChiefInspectorBarnaby · 05/11/2015 19:17

YABU.
Now stop wasting time on Mumsnet and serve that cat.

stopfaffing · 05/11/2015 19:19

Mine have stayed out tonight too. Weird but I assume they have plans Grin.

HemanOrSheRa · 05/11/2015 19:26

One of ours is outside somewhere which is worrying me a bit. But I think she knows that which is why she's doing it. The other one, a 5 month old kitty, is experiencing fireworks for the first time. I couldn't find him in his usual hideyholes and was starting to get frantic. DS found him - he is sat up on a windowsill, behind the curtain, watching them in wonder Confused.

Pipestheghost · 05/11/2015 19:27

Cats are funny buggers! One of mine is hiding at the bottom of a bookcase Grin

Is he definitely bothered by the fireworks? Mine isn't she likes to sit and watch them.

Penfold007 · 05/11/2015 19:30

Our girl cat is hiding upstairs, or boy cat is sitting on the window sill watching the fireworks. He loves fireworks.

coffeeisnectar · 05/11/2015 19:30

One of ours has just gone back out. In the rain. To obviously watch the fireworks.

Weirdo.

The other never goes out. The most she does is look out the window. If you open the door when she's near she runs and hides in case she's forced outside.

Another weirdo. :o

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 05/11/2015 19:31

He's messing with your mind... Just accept it and give yourself up to serving him Grin

Redberrypie · 05/11/2015 19:32

I am desperately trying to keep our cat in too, but she keeps howling at the door. Not phased in the slightest by all the booms.

Well 'ard

LynetteScavo · 05/11/2015 19:33

Your Cat Is Always Being Reasonable. According to your cat.

Do not try to reason with your cat.

TheoriginalLEM · 05/11/2015 19:34

YABU that animal is cold and calculating genius wrapped up in a ball of fluff!! now run along and open his food!

ahbollocks · 05/11/2015 19:43

I'm being eyeballed for frying chicken instead of feeding it so him and telling him how pretty he is.
He gives no fuck about fireworks apparently

PeekABooPinky101 · 05/11/2015 19:50

Phew. I was starting to worry that my cat was the only one out and I was a bad mummy!! I do feel bad she is out, but she went out of her own accord.... I did say not to, but did she listen, no!

Her cat flap is open and she can come in when ever she likes. I will now assume she has met up with other none scared cats and is enjoying the fireworks.

I'll go back to worrying about the bangs waking the child instead

DimlowChips · 05/11/2015 19:51

YABU the cat does what it wants....

ahbollocks that is one stern looking cat!

Ours has also been outside this evening and came back after we finished dinner. She then proceeded to shout as she could smell what we'd eaten but had missed the chance to have some herself. I caught DH giving her a little dab of the leftover double cream though Hmm

DimlowChips · 05/11/2015 19:53

Should also mention that she couldn't care less about fireworks but will sit in a window with me watching thunderstorms Grin

ratspeaker · 05/11/2015 20:10

We tried keeping our cat in one Guy Fawkes.
He wanted out.
Got himself onto an upstairs windowledge and fell or jumped out hitting our railings. Needed surgery.
Still tries to get out onto that windowledge though.

Sistedtwister · 05/11/2015 20:30

I had 2 that were terrified of fire works and one that loved them.
She was very vocal and would join in with the ooing and ahhhing with a stunned meooooowww at every sparkle.

She spent millennium eve sat on my shoulder watching them from the door step. I do miss them

LavenderRain · 05/11/2015 20:41

my 2 are sat on the bed watching the fireworks out of the window. They are very loud (the fireworks not the cats) Grin

shutupanddance · 05/11/2015 20:45

I haven't planned anything for bonfire night due to cats only being here a few weeks. They don't seem remotley bothered by them.Hmm or remotley grateful plus kitten bit me tonight when trying to give her medicine. Angry

scatterthenuns · 05/11/2015 20:51

Mine quite likes fireworks. Not letting her out though! I'm distracting her with a big tin of tuna.

gobbin · 05/11/2015 23:17

I've got one who carried on with the great effort of just, well, existing; one who went out to see what all the fuss and noise was and another who shot in like she had a rocket up her bum then proceeded to watch from behind glass! Deffo funny buggers, cats.
