To be annoyed with my DH?

Hi everyone,

Long time reader, first time poster, but I'm fuming right now and could use a second (and third, fourth etc!) opinion.

It's my niece's birthday in a few days and so I decided to make her some cakes to help out my sister. Her favourite cartoon right now is Minions, she's mad about it. Minions bedding, curtains, wallpaper, you name it!

I found a recipe and made the cakes. Now, I appreciate they aren't quite up to Nigella standards, but I thought they turned out pretty good! I showed my husband and he could barely contain his smirk. I tried to make them look a bit better by cutting the bottom half off (basically the blue bit) which I think helped, but he wouldn't stop laughing. I could have slapped him!

I didn't talk to him for the rest of the day because it took me a lot of effort to do this and I don't see him doing anything to help. I guess I could have forgiven him, but I walked in to his office last night to find that he had posted pictures of my cakes on to some website, and there were now a bunch of people laughing at my work.

Literally seething now and haven't spoken to him since!

So AIBU? I really wanted to give my niece a nice surprise with the cakes but I don't even know if I want to any more.

To be annoyed with my DH?

They'd make great Halloween cakes! Smile

YANBU, it was nasty of him to post the pics on a website.

JeanSeberg · 18/10/2015 19:11

They are terrible but fair play to you for trying.

WannabeLaraCroft · 18/10/2015 19:13

Umm.....they look like you've made a lot of effort!

But your DH posting them up just so people can laugh at them? Not cool.

DoodleCat · 18/10/2015 19:13

Better than I could do! Husband should not have posted pics to laugh at you, not nice. I've shown the pic to my 3 year old and he immediately knew what they were. Well done you I say!

NickNacks · 18/10/2015 19:14

Omg I would have howled too!

Sorry op Grin

ImperialBlether · 18/10/2015 19:14

10/10 for effort!

Chillyegg · 18/10/2015 19:14

He's a twat for putting them on a website.
As long as they tasted nice that's all that matters.

KissMyFatArse · 18/10/2015 19:14

He was cruel to post them online but I'd have to agree with him tbh, you should laugh together about it, sorry Wine

Sodder · 18/10/2015 19:15

I'd have said that they were 'zombie minions'. Grin

HippyDippyRidingPretty · 18/10/2015 19:17

Bless you! You should do like me and just buy the edible stickers! Much easier.

MinionMaker · 18/10/2015 19:17

Thanks everyone - Maybe I'm being a bit harsh on him, just so annoyed at the lack of appreciation for my effort, even if they aren't the best cakes in the world!

MrsFrankRicard · 18/10/2015 19:17

They would look a lot better if the eyes had pupils, they are a tad scary just now. I think you are being a bit sensitive, if I had made those I would laugh about it but I am sure that they taste great? I suppose yanbu to be annoyed that he posted the pic online for people to laugh at when he knew that you were already pissed off at him for laughing at your cakes. Cake

pictish · 18/10/2015 19:17

Oh OP I know you're pissed off and I can understand why, but your cakes are funny. Sorry. Blush Grin

bimandbam · 18/10/2015 19:18

Love. In the nicest possible way they are a bit rustic. My dp would have done the same to be fair. Though not posted them online as he is a bit of a technophobe.

But the dcs will love them and it's a lovely thing to do for her.

Tummyclutter · 18/10/2015 19:18

It's all about the taste. If they taste better than they look, then who cares?

There is actually a place in Cornwall called Minions, where you can gather magic mushrooms in the surrounding areas. Your Minions cakes actually look more like 'Minions spring rolls' to me, with a little bit of icing to disguise their true nature Wink.

I'd love it if my Dh put them on a website, but then I'm a bit weird.

TheJiminyConjecture · 18/10/2015 19:18

At least you had a go! You never know you might make it onto an meme. Pintrest fails are my favourite!

HoopsAlot · 18/10/2015 19:20

As pp said they look like zombie minions lol I'm sure your dn will love them all the same.

Sleepybunny · 18/10/2015 19:20

Haha! Sorry but they are a bit well..crap!

Was a bit mean of of your DH to be laughing behind your back. Although I can see the funny side!

It's a lovely thing to do to make homemade treats for your niece though.

Onedirectionarestillloved · 18/10/2015 19:23

Well I could tell straight away that they are minions.

Not sure if your dh has been unfair or not.

Does he normally joke about a lot?

LadyLonely1 · 18/10/2015 19:24

They do look awful and nothing like minions but he was mean to post it on a website. Seriously though are you really giving them to your niece?

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 18/10/2015 19:24

Grin they are so funny.

At least you tried OP.

Sallystyle · 18/10/2015 19:25
Grin

OP I love them! Yes they do look like Zombie minions but obviously a lot of thought and time went into them and they are a million times better than I could do.

I would probably laugh with my dh but he was an arse to post them online to take the mick when he knows you are sensitive about it.

Your niece will love them.

serin · 18/10/2015 19:31

That reminds me.....It's ages since I looked at the cakewrecks website!

OP, They are awful.

I am sure you have many other great talents, maybe you could focus on them.

Merguez · 18/10/2015 19:32

was it this website?

www.cakewrecks.com

One of my favourites in the whole world.

Merguez · 18/10/2015 19:33

oh serin great minds ...
