To think I'm a crap mother today ��

Ok I've had the episode from hell. I was running s bath from my 6 month old son. He occasionally rolls but not much, I left him in the middle of a king size bed- went to run the bath and heard this massive bang. Yes he'd managed to roll off onto the floor.

The scream from him was unbelievable - and he cried so hard he could barely breathe. I've had him checked over and they think he'll be fine as no danger signs shown. I just feel so awful though.

The poor little thing. I should never have left him for a second. I keep panicking that they've missed something as well- I work get a wink of sleep tonight I just know.

I really let him down ???? been in tears for 3 hours now

It happens to us all, I forgot to strap DD into a highchair at that age and she fell out of it, she was fine and so will your DS be, babies are tough.

Loads of us have been there - one of mine rolled off a bed, one got tipped out of car-seat. Then there was the time DD's elbow got in the way of the car door I was slamming shut... but they're all fine. It's terrifying at the time but these things happen - please don't beat yourself up about it.

All babies do this and your DS will be fine. Stop giving yourself a hard time, take a deep breathe and pull yourself together!!
He will be injuring himself much more soon... you need to get a grip.

Been there, done that and so have loads of very good parents, don't beat yourself up about it.

My dad sat plopped himself down quite hard on his bed next to my 5-month old brother and my DBro flew off the bed and onto the floor (he is 28 now, no lasting damage!).

My DD fell off the sofa at nine months and stuck her two front teeth clean through her lip.

DS (5yo) has always been kamikaze and is constantly covered in bruises.

Its an awful feeling when they hurt themselves but that doesn't make you a crap mother. Welcome to the club!

I've got that one beat.

Went to a theme park when ds1 was 3 and ds2 was around 6 months and in a pushchair. I suffer from light-headedness and was having a really fuzzy day. Dp and ds1 go on a helter skelter so I'm waiting at the bottom with the baby. Get a bit warm, decide to take off jacket. Baby fussing and kicking blanket off. I take off the blanket and undo the straps so I can take off his jacket too as the day was really warming up. I'm fumbling around with my fuzzy head, too many layers on and generally buggering about.

During all this I get even more fuzzy and my vision starts kind of sliding sideways. I'm vaguely aware of far away voices saying 'the baby, the baby's slipping!!'. Sure enough, just as my vision started sliding back again, ds2 was gently and quite elegantly making his way feet first out of the pushchair and I managed to stop him from hitting the ground by sticking my leg out, still mid-fumble with all the jackets and blankets and such .

He was fine, didn't even cry or get upset. I instantly awarded myself the shittiest of shitty mum awards, and then found a bench so I could have a sit down and try not to cry.

Ds head butted the wooden floor falling off the bed AND dd fell out the high chair, each time I cried more than they did.

They are fine now honest!

Everyone has done it.

From now on follow my motto that I picked up on here "everybody fed, no body dead" and chalk today up as a success.

Seriously though, give yourself a break.

It happens a lot more than you would think, as long as he's okay now that's the main thing.

It would be the shock of falling rather than your DS being hurt. He got a fright.
It just teaches you never to underestimate the rolling power of a baby. Don't beat yourself up about it, it happened to me and it has happened to people I know and none of us are crap mothers.
If you were a crap mother you wouldn'tferl as bad as you do.

I once walked through a door with my baby tucked in the crook of my arm. Hit his head on the doorframe.

In my defence we'd just come back from holiday. He fitted before we went. Obviously grew whilst we were away.
No lasting damage. He doesn't remember.
Oh and I nearly smothered him in our bed.

DS did the same at around that age. I was inconsolable.
Two days later he did it again.

I forgot to strap him into his car seat when he was an infant.
He fell forwards out of his baby swing.
He's a strapping, yapping preschooler now showing no ill effects of my terrible parenting.

It's a right of passage I reckon.

I closed the car door on my then two year olds hand at the hinge side. Her fingers went FLAT. Image cried, obviously, but was totally fine a few minutes later and her fingers sort of puffed up to normal again. Minor injuries said not to worry and that as long as the child wasn't continually distressed.

When she was a tiny baby I bashed her head off a door frame whilst walking through it.

My friend didn't see my then toddler son when she was walking across her lounge. She walked in to him with such force he flew forward and split his head on the edge of the wall at her French doors. He has a scar on his forehead from this!

A few months ago my daughter fell off a see saw. She was fine after a few minutes. We all cycled home with only minor protests. We found out a few hours later that she had fractured her arm.

I am a far worse mum than you!

I fell asleep with DD1 as a newborn and rolled over in bed and dropped her onto the floor.
You did the right thing having him checked over. I'm sure he'll be fine and I hope you get some sleep tonight.

We've done loads, too many to list. Chalk it up to experience, as baby gets older there will be a LOT more accidents

It happens!! My 2.5year old has had a split lip, a big cut to the head that required an a&e trip, a massive graze down his shin which is still scarred 6 months later, plus he fell off a really big slide and grazed the entire side of his face! These are all within the past year.

These things do happen and babies are surprisingly tough!!

Look we're all Mums but we're all human and we make mistakes. Everything will be ok it was probably the shock of it for both of you making you so upset.I'm exactly the same. Being a Mum is a tiring business and some days things just go a bit well, wrong! Give yourself a break have some time to think about what you can do better next time (maybe have a gin) and move on!

My DD fell out of the front door a few months ago. I was sitting on the doorstep, pulling up some weeds, and she was playing with a ball in the hallway. I moved down onto the path for a second to get a better angle on what I was doing... Next thing I know, she's hurtling towards me at top speed. I JUST caught her before her face hit the concrete. We're talking millimetres.

This is added to the times I've knocked her head getting her in her car seat, and when she tripped over DH's foot and smacked her head on a (book)shelf. She's still got a little scar on her forehead from that!

Oh, and only this week she was crouch-bending to pick up a stone from the pavement, and just as I thought to myself, "she's going to get a mouthful of mud from that grassy bit in a minute, I'd better grab her hood"... I'm sure you can guess what happened. Not an injury as such but still an accident and, although she didn't cry, she kept pointing at the grass and saying "on DERE!" until I convinced her to move away from the scene.

She's 19m and I see a lot more of this in our future!

DD (6months) pushed herself headfirst off of the sofa the other day whilst DH was too busy checking his phone. The cry was horrific but she got over it pretty quickly.

Yesterday she shoved her finger in my mouth whilst I was mid sentence, I didn't realise and bit her finger whilst talking. She recovered from that really quickly considering.

Babies are tough cookies! Don't worry about it. Chalk it up to experience and move on.
