3 1/2yr old and Ninja turtles? AIBU?

Ok, wise ladies of mumsnet i need you. Am i being unreasonable to think that my 3 1/2yr okd is too young for these bloody turtles? I hate them and we went from thomas the tankengine to super heroes and ninjas and swords almost overnight.
AMBU and PFB? My dh (who i normally agree with on most things and who I think is a pretty good judge) thinks I am being way to preciaous and OTT but i loathe these aggressive turtles.

Help!! Thoughts please

My son used to watch them at that age. Now his 3 year old son watches them, and loves them.
It's up to you of course, but I never had any problem with them.

most of the boys at preschool watch them and love them (3-4 year olds), they were the most popular facepaint at the preschool summer fair, with minions a close second!!

They're awesome :) far more cartoony, comic fighting than most of the superhero stuff. Definitely a good starting off point.

although I agree it probably is pfb as I have noticed that my friends with two dcs the younger one has got into superheroes quite young. My 3.5 yo was asking for a while for Spider-Man but he has accepted it is off limits, he is a wuss though and if I did let him watch anything like that he would be terrified and begging it off within 10 mins.

Is the cartoon any good? Sick to death of paw patrol in this house.

They're fab. We all watch the old cartoons and action films, the new cartoons and we've seen the movie that was released last year. My ds1 is also 3 (4 in March) and we have a 6 year old dd who both love them.

I am Swedish so maybe I find it aggressive as English isnt my first language?

So, I should chill and these turtles are not aggressive? It is just me?

They're the heroes in the half shell
DS loved them , he didn't turn out too bad ( he's 20 now , seems quite normal )

It was Thomas the awful tank engine I hated

My 2 year old is obsessed with anything like that. Power rangers, turtles, superheroes etc. However does not mean he and other children are watching shows like that turn out aggressive.

I like Thomas! Gentle stories, they're certainly not violent.
My 4 year old has no idea who the Turtles are. He's never seen them.

I love Thomas too, I would keep Thomas phase forever if I could. But its all about mikey and leo these days.

Was kind of hoping for lots of Shock posters who would agree with me but will gratiously accept that I have been proved wrong.
But these guys fight though? And then we teach kids no hitting, no fighting...will this not cause confusion?

Oh i dont know. I AM A PFB, the even the GP told me so.

I think DCs can differentiate between a cartoon and reality fairly easily. Maybe not so much if they are watching them for hours a day, but I get the feeling this is not the case here. I'd let your DS watch one or two a day and then reevaluate if his behaviour changes, but even if it did, it may not be related.

OK, you're pfb but it's lovely. Children understand the difference between tv and reality if you explain it. My ds grew up on Harry Potter, Marvel, DC and Jurassic Park. He is nine and honestly the sweetest kid. His friends parents make a point of telling me how lovely he is. Your ds will be fine Smile

I, for one, jumped for joy when the Thomas phase was over in this household and we could confidently switch off CBeebies. Ninja Turtles are a bit less boring tame than Thomas and Friends, yes, but they will be the least of your worries in a few years time. It's all downhill from there. Superheroes, Stampy and Minecraft, Horrid Bloody Henry.

I don't let my son (3) watch ninja turtles. Although I'm sure he'd love it. I too am PFB.

He watched Lego Ninjago once and then became obsessed about being a ninja and I just thought, nah I'll stick to cbeebies.

Luckily, Messy goes to Okido is now his obsession.

I share your pain - my 3.5 year old has become obsessed with power rangers though he does still love Thomas too. We talk a lot about how it's all pretend and we only watch an episode or two at weekends.

But having said that, I don't think it's any worse than playing at pirates or something like that. The whole of nursery were dressed up as pirates with cutlass made out of cardboard the other day. Grin

DS is recently four and our entire lives are about superheroes, ninja turtles and the like. Honestly, the power of peer pressure is too strong! I try to ration it but he has pretty impressive knowledge of all this stuff.

It is a really sudden transition from the gentler stuff to full on superhero/ninja/whateverthehell else.

That said, I was never that keen on some of the underlying morals/messages in Thomas....

A friend of mine mused recently on whether in 2300, the kids would all be playing Drug Cartel...
