They must have coffeed then sugared, but the coffee must have stuck to the spoon somehow for the sugar to get infected. How did it stick to the spoon? How? I'll tell you how! The spoon was damp!! That's right, a damp spoon transmitted coffee waste and any other bacteria that happened to be living in the stagnant spoon water at the time into the good honest and decent sugar that I wanted to use. Drama, I work with somebody who's Mother told her that putting hot teabags into the bin will cause a fire.

We have a 'sugar for coffee' pot and a 'sugar for tea' pot at work to resolve this very problem.

I agree that butter crumbers are also despicable people. You open up the pot of imitation butter-like oil spread and you're confronted with utter devastation. Crumbs, jam globules, goodness only knows what else. The crumbs might have come off a piece of bread months old for all I know. I have to shovel out the top inch of margarine to get at the seam of untainted. I want pure fat, not a taste of some old woman's muffin.

agree with the crumbs in butter ...I had a flatmate thief who did that -but worse I had stuff in a tub (cos I rarely ate it) and it was either full of crumbs or scraped empty

The milk thing is complicated though.

Coffee - I've had people swear the milk should go in first to stop the coffee being scalded. I have experimented, and found no difference, and don't care.

Tea - if from teapot, milk first. If bag in cup, milk last (and after tea-bag has been removed - otherwise you get sour smelling teabags)

Butter in the jam is terrible. Ditto egg in the mayo.
