Hi Mumsnet and Dadsnet,

I'm a third-year student from London College of Fashion, for my final project I am looking into writing a portfolio of work or potentially creating a website catered to helping and opening a discussion for men who shop in the plus size fashion market.

I'm currently researching into this sector and wondered if you could help with any experiences you have had or that your DH has had:

  1. Have you/your DH had any struggles shopping for your/their size? In particular, what?
  2. Do you/your DH mainly shop online or the high-street? What brands specifically?
  3. Do you find there is a stigma attached to plus sized men in the media?
  4. Would you/your DH read a website or body of work catered specifically to helping you with plus size fashion?
  5. Do you feel overshadowed by plus sized women in the media?

I'd really appreciate any help you can give,
Thanks!

Oh bog off

Can we expect a rash of these questionnaires? I don't think AIBU is the place for them. What do you mean by plus size?

PippaPug · 08/10/2015 15:44

You have a lot of final projects don't you

Ar you the same OP who is also asking us what the correlation between women and menswear is?

MrsRossPoldark · 08/10/2015 15:47

Hi SophNew123- sounds like a great venture! As I'm married to a large gentleman I thought I'd share my experiences.

  1. Struggles to find anything in xxl apart from Marks & Spencer who have a 'big & tall section'. Shirts that don't look like pjs or picnic tables are really hard to find! T-shirts that cover a belly but are also long enough not to expose the underside of an overhang are also hard to get!
  2. Mainly in shops as you can't gauge what one stores xxl is v another.
  3. Stigma - yes but not as bad as for women. Seem to be a lot of big chaps but they tend to be comedians!
  4. Website would be useful as it could make suggestions on what types of clothes cut/patterns would be more flattering?
  5. Plus size women - no not overshadowed buy women in general care more about fashion. Some blokes, esp big ones, just throw on whatever covers their gut!

Hope that helps and glad to answer more questions if you need? Good luck!

Questions 3 and 5 are pretty broad are they not?

MrsRossPoldark · 08/10/2015 15:51

Crikey there are some very rude people on here! Ok so it might be in the wrong talk topic but what's the harm in answering a few simple questions?

If you aren't interested in this topic, why don't you leave OP alone & 'bog off' yourself (looking at you sharonthewasp... Esp.!)

SophNew123 · 08/10/2015 16:04

Hi again,

I apologise if I posted this into the wrong thread, I'm still getting to grips with the world of mumsnet.

I'm also not the same student who posted about the correlation between men and womenswear.

Thank you MrsRossPoldark for your help. Great choice of username btw!

Question 3 and 5 are quite broad. In relation to the question of men in the media, I guess I mean: do you think plus size men are under represented? and if so, does this bother you?

Thank you for any help once again!

Has some bloody idiot at the London School of Fashion told a bunch of students to come here and ask us things? Because it's irritating that; they don't know how to write a research question; they have no grasp of spelling, grammar or punctuation; they think that they can use AIBU for this when it is clearly not the place.
