To think that this is very odd?

I'm shamelessly posting here for traffic but I'm a mixture of confused, worried and intrigued so need the opinions.

It's recently come to my attention that an old family member is now a, fairly, prominent politician. This wasn't the case when we were close(r). However, I'm really only related to this person through their sibling, who I know longer see or speak to, and not through my choice.

I have tried many times in the last five years that I've had no contact to find said family member, but had no luck. They are completey "un-googlable" and have no trace on social media that I can find at all. I can see or read no reference to them anywhere in the politicians bios/history. This is highly unusual isn't it?

The last I heard from incognito relative they were helping politician relative with a campaign, and also considering working in a relatively volatile area overseas. I've emailed several times and had no response but feel uncomfortable contacting the politician relative. Isn't is a bit weird to have literally no trace of his family, that I know for a fact he is extremely close to, online at all? Google has the "information removed" warning all over my searches. Hmm has the establishment erased my, much loved, relative?!!

I couldn't figure out who you were referring to, your post was too obscure for me.

NotSoDesperateHousewife · 02/10/2015 18:45

Sorry. Politician (I really do not wish to identify) has family, closely related to me, that I cannot find trace of anywhere. Basically.

I'd guess secret services job

BumgrapesofWrath · 02/10/2015 19:09

It is odd. Are you sure it hasn't been done to protect his family though?

DonkeyOaty · 02/10/2015 19:10

Yes 007 type stuff

NotSoDesperateHousewife · 02/10/2015 19:17

I don't know, there's nothing I can think of that either he (politician) or they (family) have done to warrant it. Why is their literally no mention of even their existence? It's bizarre. Why would they be 'erased' if they had? Other politicians don't ignore having parents or siblings do they? Confused

How do you have any idea what they have been doing for all these years you have been out of touch?

Some people do not want to be Googleable.

turningvioletviolet · 02/10/2015 20:00

if you're related to the politician's sibling, does that relationship not also extend to the politician? Confused

turningvioletviolet · 02/10/2015 20:02

And presumably if the sibling had wanted to stay in touch with you they would have done?

Yarboosucks · 02/10/2015 20:02

How old are they? I just googled some members of my family and I get nothing on them at all - maybe I am imagining them?

RedMapleLeaf · 02/10/2015 20:05

I don't know it's that odd. Neither of my parents have a web presence. My only use of social media is MN. My sibling is on FB but there is no mention of me or our parents as there's nobody to tag. It's just them, their spouse and kids.

Spartans · 02/10/2015 20:09

Just realised, my dbros best friend married the daughter of someone in the house of lords. Guests were only given a weeks notice but did find out the Venue until the morning of the wedding. Some security thing. The father was doing something high profile at time. Can't remember what as it was 16 years ago.

Just googled them and nothing came up

JeffsanArsehole · 02/10/2015 20:11

I'm not googleable at all. Nowt special
about me.

Lweji · 02/10/2015 20:15

It's not difficult to keep a reasonably low profile online. And his close relatives may well be aware that if there's a whiff of trouble the press will chase them and keep settings private.

lljkk · 02/10/2015 20:15

can you not email prominent-politican and say "Hey can you help me, I'm looking for Uncle Sid?"
Why the cloak & dagger stuff?

lljkk · 02/10/2015 20:16

I have a relative who is a magistrate & yet can't find her on Google. Hymph.

Lweji · 02/10/2015 20:16

I'm also sure he won't put photos and links to relatives to protect their privacy.

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 02/10/2015 20:19

Very cloak and dagger. It's all odd. I agree with lljkk, why not just ask??

MoonSandwich · 02/10/2015 20:33

I'm not google'able at all. Even if you add in extra information nothing comes up at all. My name is very unusual too so you would think if there was anything out there it would come up. I've always been very careful to keep my personal info private.

None of my 4 adult DCs come up either although that may well change soon as they start full time jobs.

I'm quite tech savvy so it's not a matter of me not knowing how to 'operate' Google Wink

I don't think it unusual.
