To just stay in bed?!

Ok, so we've just moved into a new house which is a bit bare and echoey at the moment. My husband works nights so it's just me and my baby at home.

Anyway, I was upstairs getting into bed when I realised I left the charger in the kitchen. So I go and and turn the hallway light on and the bloody bulb explodes and glass shatters everywhere. I jumped out of my skin, grabbed the charger and ran upstairs like a kid who is scared of the boogy man.

When I got upstairs I realised I must have tripped the electrics as none of the lights work now.

I'm now lying in bed, feeling a bit of a twat for jumping so dramatically when the bulb went but my heart is still pounding!!! Truth be told, I find the downstairs a bit spooky at night time.

Anyhow, since I tripped the lights is there any chance the fridge/freezer has turned off???? I really don't want to go back down there and see a ghost and walk on the glass in the dark.... So AIBU to stay in bed?! And can I plead ignorance in the morning if my husband comes home to a melted freezer??!

The fridge freezer should be fine but I do feel sorry for your DH coming back to the dark and glass everywhere.
Can't you use light from your phone to go and flip the switch? Then at least sweep up the glass

StealthPolarBear · 30/09/2015 23:26

If its like ours it will only affect lights and only a few. Have you tried the upstairs lights? Are the definitely on the same circuit?

sproketmx · 30/09/2015 23:26

Nope. It will be on a different circuit unless my hubby did your wiring. In which case what's on what circuit is anyone's guess Grin

Catzpyjamas · 30/09/2015 23:26

Is it just the lights? Do you have an alarm clock or table lamp in your room that you can try?
Also, what's the likelihood of your DH walking on the broken glass when he comes in?

Bellyrub1980 · 30/09/2015 23:27

I sent him a text warning him.

Are you telling me I need to man-up and confront the haunted hallway?

StealthPolarBear · 30/09/2015 23:28

Yep :o

Catzpyjamas · 30/09/2015 23:28

I think so Grin You can take us with you?

Bellyrub1980 · 30/09/2015 23:33

Yeah, he'll have to walk through the hallway so will walk on the glass. It was a downstairs light but the living room light stayed on but my upstairs bedroom light isn't working

Bloody hell woman, strap on your big girl pants and go clean up the mess! You can hide from the ghosts snuggle in bed after.

Bellyrub1980 · 30/09/2015 23:34

Fuck it, and again.

Ok I'm going down!!!

Aarrghhhhhh!!!!!!!

Catzpyjamas · 30/09/2015 23:40

Good luck!

TheImprobableGirl · 30/09/2015 23:42

Can you reach the trip switch? I can't... I have to ask the big muscly gorgeous Polish man from next door to do mine Grin

Pipbin · 30/09/2015 23:43

Where are you op? Have you come back safely?

pigsDOfly · 30/09/2015 23:58

You have my sympathy OP.

Many years ago I moved into a flat in an area I didn't know at all. All alone on the first evening and all was well until about 10/10.30 when all the lights fused - this was in the days when you needed fuse wire and had to carry out a fiddly repair with fine wire in order to get the fuse working again.

Obviously, I had no, fuse wire, no candles or torch and no phone - long before mobiles.

Ended up sitting in the dark feeling very sorry for myself.

Hope the ghost doesn't get you OP.

Bellyrub1980 · 01/10/2015 07:38

I'm pleased to report that I strapped on my big girl pants as suggested (luckily, being a size 16 all my pants are pretty big Smile) and went down and braved the ghostly hallway. Flicked the switch on the fuse box (could just about reach!) and cleared up all the broken glass.

I did it all very quickly (obviously, because speed is of the essence when dodging evil spirits) and then ran back upstairs!

Thank you for the moral support!

I'm now slightly concerned about the dodgy wiring in this house!!!

Glad you made it through the night Wink

Fluffyears · 01/10/2015 12:44

We are in a new build and if a light goes it trips the circuit for all the lights. Bloody irritating as I then have to faff about switching it back on, and if I haven't got glasses and a torch/mobile it's a hassle. It always like to go just as I come out a shower so I'm damp, blind and can't find my phone in the dark being short-sighted as fuck!
