Older kids in pushchairs

I've just got back from Disney, almost died with the heat! It was very crowded, but mostly with pushchairs with kids far too big to be sitting in them. I'm talking 5/6/7/8 year olds being pushed around in a stroller. A pushchair was either being pushed into me from behind, sideways or towards me. Why the hell do parents do this? I'm not talking about kids who are ill or have a disability, but older kids who are capable of walking being treated like babies

Also you know what it's a long day and those strollers are huge nice shadey areas for the kids. I don't blame people in Orlando for using them

You don't know that they aren't disabled, or ill, or a shitload younger than they look. Or perhaps they just aren't used to walking miles and miles all day long in sweltering heat and massive crowds. Whichever one applies to each child in question I am quite sure it doesn't affect you.

Surely your issue is that the strollers were pushed into you, not the age of the children in them?

Because it's hot, a long day out and the parents are smart parents who would rather get from a to b without whinging.

But they were EVERYWHERE. I just think it's mostly an excuse for some parents to baby and overindulge their kids. The parks are overcrowded enough without 6 year olds in pushchairs.

Last summer, 2014, DD then 6 had what I can only describe as a meltdown on the bus home from London Zoo. I know for a fact that it was caused by overtiredness. That was only London Zoo. I'd have killed for a double buggy that day. I can't imagine what Disney World would have been like.

If I see an older-looking child in a pushchair I assume one of two things:

1. That they are younger than they look.
2. That there's a good reason which is none of my business.

My mother-in-law says that she got a lot of judgy comments when DP was still in a pushchair. He was extremely tall and everyone assumed he was about twice his actual age.

Someone once asked me if my two were twins. DS1 was 5 and DS2 was 2! It's just that DS2 is bigger for his age than his brother so height-wise there's not a huge amount between them, and they look very alike.

It's easy to misjudge a child's age.

My son is 3.5 years old in age 6 clothes and has autism. He will regularly sit in the buggy when we are out otherwise he is likely to be all over the place or lying on the floor screaming. On a good day you'd look and think there was absolutely nothing wrong with him.

Anyway does it really matter if any child wants to sit in a buggy? It's a buggy, it's hardly going to kill them. They're not going to be in it all the time.

My friends ds is 7 and has autism, no sense of danger and hypermobility. She uses a buggy for him so they can get about safely. He also has sensory processing disorder so finds crowds overwhelming. Sat in his buggy with headphones on listening to music stops him from being overloaded.

Also it can be a culture thing here kids start school at seven and commonly use prams until five ish so just wouldn't be able to walk that much and of course the parents have the pram already so why not use it.

Oh so annoying. There's plenty folk in the town nearest us that do it. 4 year olds goin to nursery in a buggy. Totally mollycoddled. Another thing that gets on ma wick is older kids on the baby swings. School age kids in the baby swing so the actual babies can't get a shot. Parents are like no no you can't go on the big boy swing you might fall off. Fucking teach him how to go it proper then!!!! Boils ma pish

It's Disney land. people are on holiday and out for hours and hours so yes even older kids get tired and need a rest. what with being chucked out of seats fir adults all the time but that's been done on another thread

day to day round town I'd agree with you. but clearly it's a holiday and over tiredness and heat etc are all extra things to have to contend with
