I played a lot 2007-2010. I was good. In a top raiding guild. I stopped playing when my PC died. I did get a new laptop not long after but never got round to installing it and after a time all my old guild members went off to do their own thing.

They have all gone back to it over the last couple of months and I've been asked to go back.

I have a two year old DD. Shall I go back or will it consume my life?
I know I could never go back to the level I played at before but I've heard you can play now in smaller chunks and don't need 5 hours for a raid.

I want to play, but I'm having trouble justifying it.

Don't do it! You will waste your life doing that. Make the most of your real life in the real world. I regret spending too many hours playing Zelda back in the day.

ChocolateTeacup · 19/09/2015 19:05

If you want to play that is enough justification, I am going back when the new expansion hits.

WoD is ok but is a huge time sink to get up to speed with the legendary now (Spoilers it's a ring)

Raiding now is very different to back in 2010

weeblueberry · 19/09/2015 19:09

Don't do it!! Just remember how hard it was to give up I do and try not to think of it after that...

TheSpectator · 19/09/2015 19:13

Do it! I'm 70 and I love it although too doddery to raid. You have Pandaria to take you to level 90 and WoD to level 100 - new expansion due out next year. Plus pet battles!

Taylia · 19/09/2015 19:14

I played WoW from 2004 until 2011. It consumed my life, nearly cost me my job and nearly ruined my relationship.

I'd be online the minute I walked through the door until 3-4am making it nigh on impossible to get up for work in time.
My relationship suffered so badly especially as he played to.

Luckily I saw sense, concentrated more on my relationship when I got married, just played a little at weekends and stopped playing altogether when I got pregnant.

I couldn't go back to it now.

CustardOmlet · 19/09/2015 19:15

Consider first how much time you are prepared to give up to play. DH was a guild and raid leader and it would consume hours per day. He decided when he played again last year he would no longer lead raids and only played with close friends who understood we had a child and commitments. He got bored cause it wasn't the same game and quit again

FyreFly · 19/09/2015 20:09

Doooo itttt Grin. You can get a level 90 boost now! I used mine on a warlock that is just sitting there, not being played... I'm a paladin at heart! Choose more wisely than I did.

There are lots of casual raiding guilds, especially with the new cross-realm setups and merges. You can play as much or as little as you like :)

HedgehogAtHome · 19/09/2015 20:43

There was a Mumsnet guild for a while. Nest of Vipers. Good times.

lougle · 19/09/2015 21:10

Don't do it. Absolutely don't do it. If you were a serious raider you will not be satisfied by casual stuff and you'll soon be raiding again.

This awesome but very sweary YouTube video by sums it up beautifully. If you don't want to sit through 5 minutes, FF to 3:00 and I swear you'll be nodding along!

lougle · 19/09/2015 21:11

But the Onyxia wipe animation is pretty awesome.

TheRealAmyLee · 19/09/2015 21:14

Dont do it. The latest expansion is shit and pretty much forces you to raid. There is f all else to do at end game. Garrisons make getting mats/gems/enchants/gear sooo easy that you cant make any money on ah. It is also really dull toclick 5 buttons and receive gear. I played for years. Warlords has killed the game for me. I unsubbed after 2 months of NO pve content except 1 raid. Booorrriiing.

ScarletRuby · 19/09/2015 23:14

I sooooooo want to too!

YouTheCat · 19/09/2015 23:28

The garrisons are fun to start with but become a bit of a bind after a while. Getting the top level flying is a pita due to having to gain 5 achievements. I haven't done any raiding in this expansion because it's not my thing but there is plenty to occupy you, with loads of dailies and there's also raid and dungeon finder now so you aren't reliant on being in a raiding guild or trawling the wonders of trade chat to find a group.

TamaraLamara · 19/09/2015 23:41

I regret spending too many hours playing Zelda back in the day

Me too. Zelda took over my life for longer than I care to admit to! Blush

Onyxia · 20/09/2015 04:58

YANBU

do it, do it, do it! Grin

araiba · 20/09/2015 05:13

as with anything, if you enjoy it then do it. but just be careful that it doesnt take over your life.

I may have been shocked when i saw my total online time for a mmo recently

bettyberry · 20/09/2015 05:31

do it... I dug out some old memory cards and have easily totted up several hundred hours on each final fantasy game Shock We all need something fun to spend out time. Just think how many waste hours being drunk, propping up a bar or being hungover!

I'm still stuck in the grips of Skyrim and will probably get drawn into online PC gaming again

SteampunkPrincess · 21/09/2015 13:40

I played from 2007(? or 8) to a few months ago, never was a top level raider.

I got so bored on WoD just spent all my time in the garrison, came back after a couple of months, and played for 60 days, (g2a for cheap time)

Started a priest, got to level 44, went to my mains to go for flying, but eurgh...... theres sooo much to do (speaking as someone with 7 ordos cloaks!!)

i've let it lapse

FuckyNell · 21/09/2015 13:43

What the fuck are you lot on about?? Grin

NotSkinnyYet · 21/09/2015 13:53

Oooh, I was in Nest of Vipers for a while on an alt..my character should still be in there somewhere if the guild is still standing, I just haven't logged it for ages.

I still play a bit, DH has his own guild and they raid but I gave up raiding a while back. First started to play in 2010 and our original guild was awesome, but eventually people got bored and have been in a cycle of quitting and coming back ever since. Raiding is nothing like it was (hence my lack of raiding), so that may disappoint you if you ever do bob into raids.

I'd say go back, you may find it quite boring atm to be honest but it may be worth a go. Also, you can now pay your sub with WoW gold if you have enough, tokens on our realm AH are currently 46k I think which gives you 30 days of play time...possibly the only reason why DH and I still play!

Magtheridon · 22/09/2015 10:51

I started on Tbc and I loved it -The raids in this expansion are quite fun and it only takes around 2 hours to complete them on heroic difficulty.
They have changed the PlayStyle on most characters though, give it a try :)

I've just cancelled my sub as I couldn't find a 'mythic' guild.
Oh and you can ' transmog' now as it change your armour for your personal taste

Topaz25 · 22/09/2015 11:35

It's like some people can just have a social drink or an occasional bet and for others it consumes their lives. Plenty of people with families game and still lead full, productive lives. It can be just like any other hobby, and cheaper than some! Be honest with yourself about whether you feel you have addictive tendencies and if gaming interrupted other responsibilities before. If not, then go for it, just make a schedule and stick to it. Everyone deserves a hobby and some 'me' time.

GrinAndTonic · 22/09/2015 12:12

DH plays. He is a casual player and seems to wander around killing beasts and buying new outfits. Can you tell I have no dea about WoW? He said it's a big commitment to get into at your previous level. Maybe just ease yourself in?

Madratlady · 22/09/2015 12:31

I was never a serious player, never got past lvl 62. I'd like to play again but it's cost to get the other expansions I need and it'd either eat too much into my (limited, also have a 2yo and am 7 months pregnant) free time or I'd not play it enough to justify paying the subscription.
