Commons back Osborne plan for tax credit cuts
www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-34260902

I don't claim anymore because I now earn enough to support myself - because I could work and progress my career as well as my life while being a single parent.

AIBU to think this is a total travesty and so many single parents are going to have their life's devastated by this - and what about people in domestic abuse situations who will now be more unable to leave?

Maybe I some benefits scrounger - but the tax credits enabled me to be a good parent and role model to my kids - without their feckless father affecting that .... AIBU?!

YANBU.

YANBU

Weathergames · 15/09/2015 23:46

Did we as a nation seriously vote thus government back in?

YDNBU, but someone voted these back in, so a lot of your people out there agree with their cuts. No point Britain moaning now about welfare tax credits cuts. The chance was there to get the cretins out on 7 May. We've got another 5 years of this possibly more if they get back in in 2020.

Tootsiepops · 15/09/2015 23:48

YANBU.

And all the while, the press reporting has been about Corbyn not signing the national anthem today.

We really need to get our shit together as a country.

Tootsiepops · 15/09/2015 23:49

*singing

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 15/09/2015 23:50

Yes we did vote them back in. Well I didn't. I voted labour. My nan would haunt me if I voted anyone else .
It astonishes me that the past 5 years have taught people nothing.

Weathergames · 15/09/2015 23:51

I blame the people who didn't vote and those who protest voted for UKIP Sad

OP posts:
Weathergames · 15/09/2015 23:51

I voted Labour too.

There is a silver lining of sorts. That quite a few of the people who are going to be negatively affected voted Tory because they refused to listen, time and time again, and now they are angry.

Weathergames · 15/09/2015 23:58

That probably isn't going to compensate those panicking about paying the rent Confused

OP posts:
MissMarpleCat · 16/09/2015 00:05

Yadnbu, I know lots of people who receive tax credits and voted tory without reading their manifesto or understanding any of their policies.
Crazy Sad

Weathergames · 16/09/2015 00:07

I really think this is going to implode and then explode.

zen1 · 16/09/2015 00:08

YANBU. I reckon they are going to push this through now in the hope that by the time the next election is called, people will have got used to the cuts and forgotten how adversely affected they have been.

coffeeisnectar · 16/09/2015 00:10

It's a joke. The threshold for wtc is now less than £4k yet to get wtc you need to be working 24 hours a week and the nmw is £7 something an hour. So quite clearly thousands of people who will get a 5p increase in their hourly rate are going to massively lose out on wtc.

Weathergames · 16/09/2015 00:11

Is there a petition?

And they are cutting the annual rate for all benefits including hb to £20k which is going to leave people unable to keep their homes with private rents being so high in some areas. Add in the tax credits cuts and there will be families facing homelessness, no chance of a council property, being told to move somewhere cheaper which could mean having to give up their job. It's really not been thought through.

MissMarpleCat · 16/09/2015 00:15

We live in very uncertain times Sad

Weathergames · 16/09/2015 00:16

I am shit at Maths but am pretty sure long term this does not make sense financially.

I have worked and paid tax for 10 yrs (while my ex had two businesses but said he earns £825 a month so would pay me £122 via CSA so I took £300 privately) but also got tax credits (only nothing else) which helped me keep my house and keep my kids just above the breadline. I also managed to build a slight career.

WHAT THE FUCK ARE THEY DOING?!!

OP posts:
Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 16/09/2015 00:18

Yes. Know there have been other issues as to why they ended up back in and not soley because the whole of Britain is in love with call me Dave, ie People voting for UKIP. The Scottish wanting independence, correct me if I am wrong but did they not have their chance for your independence in September 2014, labour us virtually non existent there now isn't it. Plus under a different leader labour may have triumphed but let's face Ed Milliband was not viewed as a man strong enough to run the country.
However I think the main reason they got back in is because of all the benefit bashers who the government have believe every benefit recipient is a scrounger and deserves to have their already pittence cut or worse stopped. But if karma decides to pay them a visit in the firm of poverty and unemployment. That will be their vote back firing on them. They won't be clapping and cheering about cuts then. Oh and sorry but poor people who voted these back in, , if there are indeed, any, then , quite honestly I have no sympathy. Yes harsh but like I said the chance was there to get them out

NeedsAsockamnesty · 16/09/2015 00:18

I am quite curious about how this "makes work pay" as it appears to me that it makes the income gap between not working and working a fair bit smaller than it was.

MissMarpleCat · 16/09/2015 00:20

Sadly the tories don't give a FUCK about us. They have no idea how the majority of people live in this Country.

zen1 · 16/09/2015 00:20

The truth is, they actually don't give a shit. Cutting the welfare bill will never affect them or those they socialise with. Easy targets.

Weathergames · 16/09/2015 00:22

They aren't actually saving any money either.

OP posts:
Weathergames · 16/09/2015 00:22

I think the National debt is basically the same
