www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3227485/Mother-blasts-school-daughter-15-sent-home-slightly-larger-legs-trousers-tight-just-weeks-headmistress-banned-skirts.html

  1. Mum bought trousers (from Next so must be ok Confused)
  2. School said were too tight
  3. Mum said how can that be when her skinnier friends are wearing the exact same trousers and aren't in trouble.

What is the mum thinking. She's basically announcing to the country that her daughter's thighs are chunkier than her friends'.

How can it matter that someone else has identical trousers if they don't fit that child?

Am I missing something? Does this lady just not like her daughter?

Didn't the Head Mistress say that right trousers distract the male staff? If that's the case then maybe it's the male teachers that need to be sent home.

fastdaytears · 09/09/2015 12:59

That seemed to be about skirts too so the headmistress does seem a bit odd for sure!

I sincerely hope the head teacher didn't say that. Bloody victim blaming. If the male teachers can't cope seeing a teenage girls arse in tight trousers they need sacking. Twats.

Hoppinggreen · 09/09/2015 13:02

My daughter is 10 and finds my general existence embarrassing. If was to parade her in a National newspaper and draw attention to any part of her body she would probably drop dead from shame on the spot ( ok, I admit I getting as over dramatic as her now)
I really have no idea what these parents think they are doing in the papers, if you think you have a genuine issue speak to the school rather than the bloody papers!!!

RiverTam · 09/09/2015 13:07

Well, OP, you've hardly helped by drawing this to everyone's attention on MN, have you? What the hell were you thinking?

Sallyhasleftthebuilding · 09/09/2015 13:07

On a serious note, if your child is sent to school, which you have to do leagely as a parent, and school sends them home, whos responsibility is it? If i rang school and said DD has grown over night, and shes too big for her trousers, can i keep her off all week till the replacement arrives?

fastdaytears · 09/09/2015 13:16

RiverTam I'll check my diary from 15 years ago but I'm reasonably sure I didn't give birth to the kid.

It's the girls saying she's got fatter legs than her pal, not her mother. It's insane the amount of criticism teenage girls face over wearing perfectly normal clothes. The male teachers should do one.

paulapompom · 09/09/2015 13:23

river that's harsh! It's already out there, the op is saying she has sympathy for the girl.

Ffs I don't know what to be more offended by! That the girls too big for the trousers - she looks fine to me, that the male teachers are all animalistic pervs as implied by the head, it that a school rated inadequate has her for a head teacher!

mileend2bermondsey · 09/09/2015 13:24

If she wants to wear the same style pants as her mates, just get a bigger size that fit appropriatley.

car0line123 · 09/09/2015 13:24

It's hilarious, poor kid. The mother is so desperate for her 5 minutes of fame that she is happy to embarrass the child. She is not making any sense. If kids were made to wear "1 size fits all" clothing, she would be shouting it's against her human rights.

I hate these parents who believe the rules about uniform should apply to anyone but them.

jay55 · 09/09/2015 13:25

There is something very creepy about staff inspecting the tightness of trousers.

Oldraver · 09/09/2015 13:27

Has the head really said the male teachers will be distracted ? I wonder what her male teachers think of her basically saying they are pervs ?

fastdaytears · 09/09/2015 13:27

If she wants to wear the same style pants as her mates, just get a bigger size that fit appropriatley. well that would seem like a plan to me! The girl looks a completely normal size so I'm pretty sure Next can accommodate her.

This. it's not just victim blaming, it's tossing around nasty insinuations.

BathshebaDarkstone · 09/09/2015 13:31

My primary school aged DD's wearing skintight jersey trousers today, is this what she's got to look forward to? FFS. Hmm

luciferswench · 09/09/2015 13:33

Maybe she should sack her pervy male teachers and employ only female staff - problem solved. She certainly is a strange head mistress.
the worlds gone mental :(

pandarific · 09/09/2015 13:40

I think good on the mum and daughter for calling the school on their body-shaming and victim blaming mentality.

FFS, the kid seems perfectly happy to be involved and I think it's ridiculous to say 'oh poor her, the world will know she has big thighs' or 'the mum is so desperate for her 5 minutes of fame'. Let the school justify their ridiculous sexist policies - good on them!

Hellocampers · 09/09/2015 13:45

I agree with you pandarifuc I would be beyond livid if any HT decided that teenage girls should dress in a way to not inflame the adult male teachers!

Totally fucking unnaceptable in Britain 2015.

Maudofallhopefulness · 09/09/2015 13:48

Fucking hell, if male staff get that distracted by girls wearing perfectly normal clothes then they're the unacceptable ones. I imagine they'd notice pretty girls no matter what they wear.

tigerscameatnight · 09/09/2015 13:50

Shock "Dr Rowena Blencowe told pupils that their choice of trousers was not suitable as they would prove to be a ??distraction?? to male teachers at Trentham High School in Stoke-on-Trent.
She first outlawed skirts in July for the same reason, and said she was fed up of telling girls off for showing too much leg and wearing skirts that ??barely covered their bottoms??.

balletgirlmum · 09/09/2015 13:53

Is this Trentham by any chance?

Utterly ridiculous - just get the right trousers!

balletgirlmum · 09/09/2015 13:54

It's one of the very few local schools thst doesn't insist on school specific with a logo trousers or skirt.

balletgirlmum · 09/09/2015 13:56

It's also a school competing against the highly over subscribed neighbouring but in the adjoining LEA Clayton High. Clayton are uber struct in uniform & seen as a better school generally.
