Queen to be longest reigning monarch

AIBU to hope she doesn't die tonight. It was bad enough when the Queen Mum was to turn 100. There was almost a whole year of parades etc and DH and I kept worrying that she would peg it before she actually DID turn 100.

I said the exact same thing to DH today.

Only an hour to get through and if she carks it in the next hour I think they'll fudge it a little

scarlets · 08/09/2015 23:06

I think she'll live to 100+.

EnthusiasmDisturbed · 08/09/2015 23:09

I thought that to

I am surprised how little reporting there is though I guess by tomorrow after 530 that will all change

Mrsjayy · 08/09/2015 23:12

Oh dd said this earlier what if she dies thats a terrible thought but she is an elderly lady .if she lives to say 98 and maybe her faculties start to go will she have to abdicate ?

Mrsjayy · 08/09/2015 23:14

Oh i said to dd i think they would wing it till 12:02, thursday morning

MrsLeighHalfpenny · 08/09/2015 23:14

She'll never abdicate, she's hinted as such a few times. Charles might be appointed as Regent if the Queen becomes incapable though.

Mrsjayy · 08/09/2015 23:16

Ah ok is that how it would work I reckon she has a good few years in her yet

Northernlurker · 08/09/2015 23:17

Nobody knows exactly when George VI died. He was seen sometime in the night fiddling with the window of his room then when his valet came to wake him up the next morning he'd gone. Therefore if the Queen unexpectedly pops off tomorrow afternoon before 5.30 I reckon we can say she made it.
She won't though. She's in excellent health and enjoying her Scottish holiday. She's not going to wreck that Grin

EnthusiasmDisturbed · 08/09/2015 23:17

I heard on the news she will become longest reigning monarch from 530pm tomorrow I guess that is the time she became queen which seems rather late in the day Confused

Northernlurker · 08/09/2015 23:33

No it will be the time she overtakes Victoria.
William IV died in the early hours of 20th June 1837 and then she reigned until the early evening of 22 January 1901.

Northernlurker · 08/09/2015 23:36

Sorry I mean overtakes her in terms of total years, months, days, weeks and hours reigned.

PennyHasNoSurname · 08/09/2015 23:43

I wondered this too! I also had a little daydream of Lizzie thinking it in jest too. "Dont ask me to turn on anything electrical today / I shant go put driving today / chef, I need all dishes tested before they pass mylips, I dont want to pop my clogs in the next 24 hours!"

DontEatAnyFishTodayMaam · 09/09/2015 14:00

Has she won yet?

Grr. Bloody David Cameron takes 'but what about the menz?' to new lows. Apparently he has made a speech commemorating the Queen, adding in that we should also be thinking about Prince Philip and the service he has provided. FFS.

DontEatAnyFishTodayMaam · 09/09/2015 14:19

Oi, don't be rude about immigrants TooExtra - Phil the Greek has done stirling stuff, like insulting lots of people with inappropriate comments.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 09/09/2015 14:27

Yes...particularly the bit where he made a Heil Hitler salute at the German chancellor whose name currently escapes me. That was some excellent work on behalf of the country there. Grin

DontEatAnyFishTodayMaam · 09/09/2015 14:35

OMG you are totally joking?????????

Actually, I love Prince Philip. He will be a sad loss when he eventually goes. But at least we'll get the day off.

OP posts:
TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 09/09/2015 14:48

I could have sworn he did but I can't find any evidence of it! It was Gerhard Schroeder. Surely I'm not imagining this? It would be werid thing to imagine.

LeChien · 09/09/2015 14:51

Some of prince philip's best gaffes

Fluffyears · 09/09/2015 15:46

I love prince Phil he at least is funny. Good on the queen for getting to this milestone. Now the important stuff, will her 90th be a public holiday like her 80th? Come on Davey let us have a day off.

EponasWildDaughter · 09/09/2015 16:01

530pm tomorrow I guess that is the time she became queen which seems rather late in the day

They were saying today that that is roughly the time her father King George died, (they're not sure the exact time - he died in his sleep) and therefore the time at which she became queen.

I found that an interesting useless fact :)

DontEatAnyFishTodayMaam · 09/09/2015 16:55

Thank you LeChien

I lived in Papua New Guinea and I met someone who claimed he'd met cannibals when he was a boy. Cannibalism was rife before the "Long Pigs" came - ie white man - the country is very tribal. Don't know why I'm typing this, really. Just waiting for 5.30pm to come and go unnoticed.
