To think that if you order a take away from Just Eat then it should be here when it says it should?

Ordered an Indian at 7pm, said on the Just Eat app that it would arrive at 8.05. It still hasn't arrived, I'm fucking starving! And God knows what sort of state it will he in when it arrives. Cold or un edible, or both.

AIBU to think of you order something and they give you a time it should be here op by that time? Would I be unreasonable to give them a shit review on Just Eat! They won't be getting a tip that's for sure!

Depends. Would you have completed the order if you'd known how long? If not, YANBU in the slightest.

ooerrmissus · 05/09/2015 20:36

Phone the takeaway direct. Sometimes the system doesn't pass the orders on properly.

MrsGinnyPotter · 05/09/2015 20:36

Yabu! It's Saturday night and takeaways are busy!! They usually say around X time and if it's 30mins early/late then that's acceptable IMO! If it's not arrived by 9pm then definitely complain! Grin

PinkSquash · 05/09/2015 20:39

I've had this with Just Eat orders, I won't use JE for ordering again because of it

justtheonethen · 05/09/2015 20:43

I think they make allowances for how busy restaurant is when they give the estimate. I think up to 15/20mins late is ok but more annoys me. I have complained to JE after a takeaway was 45 mins late and got a refund.

Hope you have it soon, I'm sure it will be edible and hot, will just have left restaurant later than it should have.

Rhine · 05/09/2015 20:43

No I woulndt have completed the order had I know how long it would be. Would have ordered a Dominos which always arrives promptly.

Ordered something last week.. Took the money.. Then got an email to say they were too busy and declined our order and money would be refunded in 7 days!!!
Had to order else where and pay again..
If somewheres too busy to accept an order they should take it off line while on justeat, not take our money and then say they're too busy!!

We used Just eat once a few years ago.Never again the take away took nearly 2 hours to get here and were very central, easy place to find. Then when the order did get here some of it was missing, rang the place straight away and it took another 30 minutes to get the rest of it.

When we ordered it,they'd said it would take 30 minutes for the whole of the order to get here not 2 1/2 hours.

So far never had that problem when ordering direct from the take aways.

Like another poster said I'd ring them direct and complain.

blibblobblub · 05/09/2015 20:44

YANBU. I haaaate this.

The worst one we had, I did the order through JE and had to call the takeaway three times chasing it. Third time I called and said don't bother coming. Ordered from somewhere else. First one turned up 5 mins later. Felt awful turning the delivery driver away but it had been like two hours Angry

Daffodilliesanddaisies · 05/09/2015 20:44

I've tried twice to order take always with Just Eat with two different take always. Both times they've taken my order then told me 45 mins later that the take away was shut and that my order had been cancelled. The last time the take away called me and asked me why I'd cancelled my order. I explained I hadn't and that Just Eat had told me they'd cancelled it. They said they were part way through cooking it when they got the cancellation message and did I still want it. By this time Dp had gone out to another take away. They were nice about it and offered me 10% off another time. So Just Eat messed us both around. I won't ever use them again now.

SpendSpendSpend · 05/09/2015 20:46

I dont understand why people order from just eat instead of phoning the takeaway direct.

When you order from just eat it charges the takeaway £5 for every order.

Fluffyears · 05/09/2015 20:50

I order from just eat because i can
Pay be debit card. Some smaller take always don't take card payments and if I have to go out to a cashpoint I might as well drive to the take away anyway.

Rhine · 05/09/2015 20:51

Just rang the takeaway. Apparently they have had loads of complaints tonight and are blaming Just Eat, it will be here "soon" apparently.

I don't particularly want to be eating hot curry at nearly 10pm to be honest, but Im now so hungry I just want food in my belly asap.

I've been loyal to just-eat for years but have now stopped using it because their customer service is pants.

timeou · 05/09/2015 21:00

The one and only time I ordered using JE my card details were used repeatedly over the following few weeks for mobile phone top ups of a few pound each time. When I evetually noticed and contacted the bank they spotted the JE transaction in the preceding days and they said straight away that's where my card was compromised. It's quite common apparently. Be careful folks.

Rhine · 05/09/2015 21:03

Still not here. Fucking joke. Love how they take your money before you actually get the food.

I no longer use just eat. Here's why.
Ordered via them from a local fried chicken place. After waiting 20 minutes we got an email saying that they had had no response from the restaurant so our order was cancelled. Dh went and out and got the food instead.
About ten minutes after we got back a driver arrived with our original order! I didn't want to accept it, but the driver insisted. This was our fatal mistake.
I contacted just eat online and asked what I should do - would I still have to pay for the original order? I was told categorically that I would not as it was their error even though I had accepted the food.
Not long after we had eaten I got a phone call from someone else at just eat to ask if we'd received the food. I referred back to the person I had spoken to online and was told that I should have turned the food away and I would now have to pay. My response was that I had been told a) that the order was cancelled and b) that I would not have to pay.
The chap on the phone got quite rude and told me that unless I returned the food to the restaurant I would have to pay. I insisted he send someone out to collect it as we'd already been out once that evening when we hadn't wanted to and the extra food would have been cooked and wasted due to their communication error, not ours.
It was collected. Utterly pointless waste of time.
I then received another email to tell me that my order had been received by the restaurant and was now being processed.
Half an hour later I got another email asking if I had received my food. I responded with the names of the people I had spoken to both online and on the phone and also asking them to please stop bothering me.
I know now I should not have accepted the food but the driver was so insistent!
The restaurant in question no longer deals with just eat either!

Spilose · 05/09/2015 22:40

Well it isn't exactly JE's fault. It's the takeaway themselves. Just phone and ask

Morganly · 05/09/2015 22:43

YABU. If you order a home delivery at peak time on a Saturday night, you have to accept that it may not arrive at the specified time. Have another glass of wine.

blibblobblub · 05/09/2015 22:44

On the flip side, we ordered earlier from a pizza place via JE. They just called us to ask if it was ok to substitute a (very minor) pizza topping for another. Now that is the kind of customer service I can get on board with.

DavenotChas · 05/09/2015 22:54

Use Hungry house instead, I gave up on just eat and used Hungry house because of a 20% discount code and have used them ever since.

Rhine · 05/09/2015 22:56

The food eventually arrived at 9.15, an hour and 10 minutes late. The delivery driver was apologetic, food was ok but nothing to write home about. Won't order from them again.

OP posts:
EeyoresTail · 05/09/2015 23:05

Just Eat and Hungry House have both been on Watchdog. Fabricating takeaway businesses so the food is being made on trading estates or even in residential premises! Shock
I would never order them.

DiscoMoo · 06/09/2015 00:00

Last time we ordered a curry with just eat, it took over 2 hours to arrive and by the time it did we were hammered (drinking on empty stomachs). It was a Saturday night but it is annoying when you are given an estimated delivery time that is way out. If a realistic time is given it would be much better (and I would start drinking later!)

Cirsium · 06/09/2015 00:11

Takeaways pay their delivery staff a pittance, usually a flat fee plus delivery costs and tips, encouraging them to be self employed for what should really be an employed position. They are reluctant to employ enough drivers to keep up with demand on busy nights, as on the quiet nights it would eat into their takings. They often phone them while they are out doing one delivery, getting annoyed that they are not back to do the next and encouraging (shouting at) them to drive dangerously to save time. Drivers, particularly in rural areas, may be given deliveries to make over a huge area. So please be nice to your delivery driver and complain to the restaurant or Just Eat.
