To take dd (4) to church?

She recently heard a song about Jesus and has been asking me constantly about Jesus. I found it hard to offer an explanation in age appropriate terms, and from a non-Christian perspective.

Going past a church, I pointed it out to dd, and talked about how it is related. She now really wants to go.

I'm not sure if it would be right to bring her alog to church just to satisfy her curiosity, when we are not Christian. We are relatively non-practising non-Christians.

Take her is she has asked. She'll be bored as hell and probably won't ask again.

Can't see the problem with taking her at all - you are clearly not going to behave disrespectfully so can't see any issues. I would recommend looking out for a service advertised for families - that way if she starts getting bored and restless she won't be disturbing anyone

Send her to Sunday school if she's curious.

Of course you can go just out of curiosity! You'd be most welcome I'm sure.

See if your local church has a family service, I took DD for a couple of years to the once a month one while she was going through a "I think I'm a Christian" period. I did make it clear to her that I was an Atheist in age appropriate terms and that there were plenty of other beliefs that can be explored, we talked about it a lot.

I always thought that there was something at the back of it and in the end she told me that someone had told her that she wouldn't get into the same heaven as her best friend because she wasn't christened, quite true from the point of view of their beliefs but crappy news for a six year old.

Look for a church that runs a messy play session and take her along to that.

Yes you can go to church to see what it's like. There's no obligation to believe anything in particular, and it's interesting to learn about the religious parts of our cultural history.

I would go somewhere where there is high liturgy (Eastern Orthodox, High Church CoE, Traditional Catholic). High liturgy speaks to all the senses (incense, vestments, music, movement) and conveys what the worship of God and religion is about much better than words - and especially to someone who is too young for complex explanations.
