(part 2) to think that Camila Batmanghelidgh must be lying when she says she has done nothing wrong in her spending of Kids' Company Funding?

LuluJakey1 · 01/09/2015 17:34

She is like Jimmy Saville in that what she has been doing has been under all of all our noses and we have refused to speak up about it or believe it.

It is not just the luvvies who have been up close and personal with her- involved with the charity and CB at a very close level, some even Trustees. It is also the employees and the parents of children, the children themselves, the volunteers. We are not talking about a hidden mis-use of funding. We are talking aout a whole culture of open waste and self-indulgence.

I know it is from The Daily Mail but it is actually an interview with het.

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3199527/My-heart-clear-says-Kids-Company-boss-Batmanghelidjh-admits-charity-paid-school-fees-employees-children-denies-wrongdoing.html

£5000 a month rent on an Art Deco House with private swimming pool - which houses a member of staff, and the swimming pool is used by CB but hot by any children- they are 'not allowed' (her words)

£40,000 chauffeur- now a specialist worker (according to CB). also has private school and therapist funding for his 2 children.

Staff( how many?) have their children sent to private schools because the job is stressful and it is part of a 'staff well-being package'

The Chauffeur's sister is also employed - now as a 'brilliant accountant', last summer as 'the woman who does my sewing' (mind you that would be a full-time job in itself, but it does imply the charity pays for those vile outfits much as I suspected)

25 young people given £769,000 a year funding - £31,000 a year each, to do nothing. They are CB's specially selected young people- many of whom have received funding for many years. She describes them as 'like a family, hanging round the house'. She deals with their funding herself.

Yet STILL CB complains staff should not have spoken up about any of this and implies those who have will suffer for it.

In my view this woman and her behaviours are corrupt, dishonest and immoral.

Are my views unreasonable? I feel this could be jus the tip of the iceberg in terms of what is yet to emerge and prosecutions will be very likely.

I think there should be a down- to the -bone, in-depth investigation of every aspect of the work of this charity and of CB. Not simply any concerns that have now been raised but a complete trawl of the spending, the practices and the behaviours of CB herself.

Am so impressed at the digging people have done on this thread. Fantastic work.

We do need a thread about corruption and misuse of funds in academies.

And I'm still waiting for BoffinMum's Anthony Seldon Rant. No pressure. Smile

TalkinPeace · 03/09/2015 18:13

I'm just reading through the 2013 accounts here
apps.charitycommission.gov.uk/Accounts/Ends98/0001068298_AC_20131231_E_C.pdf
Their reserves were so low that they paid more on overdraft interest than they earned on savings.
They did not have enough money to pay their staff for a month if the funding dried up.
They had an average of 495 FTE staff apparently : so probably around 1500 in total
Camila was on between £90 and £100k
somebody else was on £70-£80k

TalkinPeace · 03/09/2015 18:17

But on page 56 is the mega alarm bell :
Donations receivable & Accrued Income = £4,767,519
ie they were assuming that donations would come in even if they had not .....

and then the massive Deferred income accounts

and the unsecured loans and overdrafts of £800k

TalkinPeace · 03/09/2015 18:18

and on page 60 we have
One child of a trustee was employed by or contracted to the Charity during the year remunerated at £32,571 (2012 - £27,278). Another child of a trustee was employed by or contracted to the Charity during the year remunerated at £17,124 (2012 - £8,597).

hmmm

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 03/09/2015 18:19

That's quite a payrise for the second child...

I'm very impressed at your ability to wade through the accounts Flowers

TalkinPeace · 03/09/2015 18:52

itsall
The second trustees child may have just worked part of the year in 2012 .... maybe

I write such accounts and know where I would hide stuff, so that is where I start to look.

Was it not Richard Handover's offspring that were employed by KC? Surprised they had time.

Found this lovely from Tatler in 1998:

www.tatler.com/bystander/events/1998/may/alexandra-woodalls-party#!/18029/image/3

'It was an eventful evening,' said Patricia Woodall of her daughter Alexandra's party for 300 at Bonhams. There were five young hostesses and some didn't even know each other. However, the mothers- Suzanne von Pflugl, Liz Bonham, Veronica Handover and Lulla Waterfield - did, and concocted a plan with Patricia for a joint party. The evening went swimmingly until one lad was seen to drop a canapé and grind it into the carpet. When Nick Bonham remonstrated with him, he replied: 'Anyone would think you owned the place.' Whoops.

In other words, Mrs Richard Handover was rather busy getting her daughter into society columns at that stage. This must have prepared the girl very well for ultimately being a key worker at KC ...

What is this Keeping Kids Company Enterprises Ltd (apparently commercial) organisation?

www.bizdb.co.uk/company/keeping-kids-company-enterprises-limited-07815800/

Registered as 07815800 four years ago, Keeping Kids Company Enterprises Limited is categorised as a Private Limited Company. The active registration address is 1 Kenbury Street, London. The company currently known as Keeping Kids Company Enterprises Limited was known under the name Benhedge up till 14th November 2011 then the business name got changed. This enterprise SIC and NACE codes are 82990 and has the NACE code: Other business support service activities not elsewhere classified. 2013-12-31 is the last time the company accounts were reported. Keeping Kids Co Enterprises Limited has been a force to be reckoned with for 4 years now.
Because of the following company's constant growth, it was unavoidable to recruit extra company leaders: Richard Gordon Handover, Vincent Gerald O’Brien and Sachin Mevada who have been cooperating since December 2013 to promote the success of this business. At least one limited company has been appointed as a director, specifically Keeping Kids Company.

I agree with the Wakefield comparisons - a deluded, attention-seeking liar doing hideous damage while being backed up by dimwitted 'special snowflakes' - the sort of people who regard facts and figures as evidence of a government conspiracy that they, and only they, 'enlightened' by the self-obsessed scammer, are special enough to see through..

What this clusterfuck is also starting to remind me of is the Satanic Panic of the 90s - well-intentioned people accepting without question that there is some 'hidden wrongness' and forgetting all about evidence. While in the case of the Satanic Panic there were some genuninely very abusive families, and quite probably some of them did involve some Hammer House Of Bollocks-style theatrics in their mistreatment of children, much of it was literal witch-hunting peddled by idiots who genuinley believed in Satan.

TalkinPeace · 03/09/2015 19:29

According to Companies House and Duedil its a small trading arm : not unusual for CHarities to do such so that they can allocate VAT for events.
But some of the appointment information seems unusual

ChristineDePisan · 03/09/2015 19:43

I put some bits of info about the Enterprise company on the last thread, but I haven't been able to track down much more about what it is / was.

I have found this, though: John Frieda's School of Confidence, based in the top two floors of the KC building.

Pneumometer · 03/09/2015 19:47

What this clusterfuck is also starting to remind me of is the Satanic Panic of the 90s

Several witnesses claim that CB was a big advocate of that. It would figure.

The difference with Wakefield is that although he may have gone mad/bad/sad, he did at least have an MBChB and appropriate post-graduate qualifications: he was a real medical doctor, doing real research, who became either a charlatan or self-deluded or a crook, depending on which account you believe.

BoffinMum · 03/09/2015 19:48

SGB, it actually sounds like Marietta Higgs and Geoffrey Wyatt, central to the Cleveland abuse scandal.

For those too young to remember it, children were ripped from their homes in the 1980s because they had presented at a paediatric clinic with what those two called 'reflex anal dilation', a now discredited test they carried out without anyone's consent when children came in for appointments for other things. They argued this test demonstrated that the children had been buggered. It became a witch hunt and the council was overwhelmed with children taken from their parents - not least because apparently GW attempted to put a whole school in care at one stage on the grounds that they were all abusing each other.

The ultimate irony in all this was that at the time, Savile was roaming free ...

BoffinMum · 03/09/2015 19:50

John Frieda is involved as well?!! Crikey!

LuluJakey1 · 03/09/2015 19:51

Father Actually, it is an interesting comparison between Damien Hirst and CB.

Two people who have conned the luvvies that what they do has substance, academic rigour and worth parting with millions for when infact it's the emporer's new clothes with both of them and the luvvies don't want to speak us and say 'That is crap. What you are saying/doing is baseless rubbish and the claims you make that it is morally right/ Art are based on nothing. We are giving you zilch'

Instead they all pour adulation n the pair of them and throw millions at them.

Damien Hirst coukd not give me one of his chopped up animals or crystal skulls for nothing. They are vile.

BoffinMum · 03/09/2015 19:53

So many careers have been built on the back of the child protection/stranger danger bandwagon.

The Vetting and Barring Scheme was another massively expensive enterprise that was only just nipped in the bud before we all had to start paying them hundreds of pounds to prove we were crime free. The VBS board was full of police who had made careers out of invoking evil and scaring people, and journalists who built careers writing about child protection.

Pneumometer · 03/09/2015 19:59

If you happen to be in Vienna, there's an amazing exhibition of recent Tracy Emin work in the Leopold gallery. Some of it is heart-stoppingly beautiful, some of it is heart-breakingly sad, some of it is both. Not all the YBAs are/were charlatans.

Pneumometer · 03/09/2015 20:01

While singularly failing to arrest either Cyril Smith, Jimmy Saville, or any of the people engaged in long-term abuse in Rochdale, Rotherham or Oxford.

Odd, that.

BoffinMum · 03/09/2015 20:03

That's kinda my point.
Empty vessels make the most noise.

SolidGoldBrass · 03/09/2015 21:50

Damien Hurst might be a scammer in terms of art (doesn't he barely actually make any of his 'work') but he, on the whole, just parts stupid people from their money. He's more on the level of 'brand' companies who will charge £100s for a belt or t-shirt or a handbag that's made in exactly the same sweatshop as one that costs you £5 down the market...

And yes, BoffinMum, I was thinking of Higgs and Wyatt, who were part of that awful business. They made claims which led to kids being snatched from their homes in dawn raids, given intrusive physical examinations, repeatedly interrogated and told they were lying when they said their families had never hurt them and they wanted to go home...

There are always reasons behind these various scams and claims. At the time of Higgs/Wyatt/Satanism I (and a lot of other people) thought it was about stigmatizing subcultures - a lot of the widely-reported guff around the time went on about the dangers of heavy metal music, horror films, etc and how those things led to Satanic Ritual Abuse (so people didn't have time to worry about the economy/increasing surveillance). I now think it might have been whipped up at least partly to make sure attention was diverted from actual child abuse being carried out by powerful individuals...

I find him offensive. The photo of him with the severed head of a corpse when he worked in a morgue makes me sick. It is so disrespectful to that man (who is clearly recogniseable) and his family and Hirst thinks it's hilarious.

His work is a sham in terms of artistic ability in my view. Dead sharks, dead cows, dead people, coloured dots in rows and crystal skulls. Yawn.

I think Tracy Emin is a highly talented artist and admire her work.

But the correlation between Hirst and CB is quite interesting. Two conners.

A DM article on the School of Confidence - including the fact that adults in their forties attended

I suspect that's wildly over-thinking it (as I think you know). Saville and Smith didn't need a conspiracy of clever, subtle misdirection, involving powerful dark forces. For a start off, they weren't actually powerful: a provincial councillor and a very provincial disc jockey (or, perhaps "disc jockey") were hardly The Establishment. They just needed low cunning, nerve and a brazen ability to exploit the naivety of those who were supposedly protecting children. When suspicion fell on them, the police were keen to protect the BBC and "politics", not Saville and Smith; the offenders probably couldn't believe their luck.

LuluJakey1 · 03/09/2015 22:24

I could vomit reading that article. It is full of ego-stroking and preening comments between John Frieda and CB. No one in RL ever speaks to each other like that.
You are wonderful darling
No, no, you are more wonderful.
I have an amazing idea.
Oh it's an amazing idea, you are clever, but I have a better one.
Oh yes, you're right. Yours is much better. How brilliant you are. I do admire you.
You are brilliant too. I am in awe of you.
Shall we tell that nice reporter how amazing we both are?
Oh yes, let's.

Then the same old narrative is trotted out about CB's life.

Kid's Company- they are all adults.

Load of twaddle!
