To think they should let me claim child benefit

Ds was accepted onto a course before his 19th birthday and I informed the child benefit of this. I've now got a letter where he has been removed from my claim. Their website clearly says a young has to be accepted or enrolled which ds was.

Have you contacted them to find out why he has been removed? may be a simple oversight.

I don't understand your post, it doesn't make much sense. Your DS was accepted onto a course that means child benefit can no longer be claimed for him, their website says this, and yet you think it's wrong?

Welliknow67 · 17/08/2015 11:02

No he's doing a level two course which counts as a non-advance course.

He has sn so at the moment is unable to work.

What sort of course is it?

Welliknow67 · 17/08/2015 11:04

It's a BTEC.

Appeal in writing.

LIZS · 17/08/2015 11:07

www.gov.uk/child-benefit-16-19 According to this he should still be eligible. Did he have a break from ft education?

pudcat · 17/08/2015 11:07

Courses are not approved if paid for by an employer or ‘advanced’, eg a university degree or BTEC Higher National Certificate.

Superexcited · 17/08/2015 11:09

If he is 19 before the 1st September in the year which the course starts then I didn't think you were eligible for child benefit?
If he has SN do you claim the other benefits that he might be entitled to? DLA etc?

NobodyLivesHere · 17/08/2015 11:10

i would get in touch and query it, looks like an oversight on their part.

NobodyLivesHere · 17/08/2015 11:11

pudcat its not an higher btec if its a level two.

Pilgrimforever · 17/08/2015 11:14

DD19 started a level 3 Btec when she was 17. She's just finished now at 19 and a half. I've just received her last child benefit payment last week.

Welliknow67 · 17/08/2015 11:23

Thanks everyone I plan to email them. I do plan to appeal as their website clearly says accepted or enrolled.
