... in Les Miserables? I know it's a running joke that he couldn't sing (well they joked about it in Modern Family, I think), but I actually thought he sang well and was well cast...

Have you ever gone against the grain in your opinion of a performance?

Ha ha, yes it would grind to a halt but it's such a good story otherwise, and it always anoyed me that she didn't just lie.

Shakey1500 · 10/08/2015 22:21

And don't get me started on Johnny Depp and HBC in Sweeney Todd

Griphook · 10/08/2015 22:25

bikeandrun
I have actually read the book ( well most of it)

Did you skip the 100 or so pages about the war by any chanceSmile

LA Confidential is one of my favourite films ever, and yes RC is wonderful in it. It's one of a handful of films that I will always watch if I come across it whilst channel-hopping.

Also love Gladiator.

RC may well be a bit of a twonk and have been in some shit films since then, but I will always be a bit fond of him because of LA Conf. and Gladiator.

MissMuffetisin · 10/08/2015 22:29

I thought he was great. I've seen les mis twice in London, he filled that role. Anyone else is going to seem a bit insipid now.

bikeandrun · 10/08/2015 22:30

Griphook, yep! And some big side track about the catholic church!

KevinKnowsImMiserableNow · 10/08/2015 22:30

Here's a gratuitous shot of it..

Has anybody seen the Les mis film with Liam neason and geoffrey rush it is spectacularly shit

LittleCandle · 10/08/2015 22:40

I thought all of the film of Les Mis was a let down. Hugh Jackman was the biggest disappointment for me, but Russell Crowe was excruciating. Anne Hathaway did a good job of I Dreamed a Dream, but i find her incredibly ugly and not nice to watch. I didn't mind Eddie Redmayne and Samantha Bark was excellent, but then has done this part on the stage. A couple of the supporting actors were very good, but overall, that was a couple of hours of my life i will never get back again and i adore the stage musical and could watch it every night of the week, if that was only possible.

I love watching Alfie Boe on that clip, he looks nervous as hell! There follows the original cast (including Michael Ball, Frances Rufaelle (sp) and the original Thenadiers) singing One Day More. Spine tingling!

Can't find a non-shaky version on Youtube?

Mrsjayy · 10/08/2015 23:16

I just listen to it tbf if you google Les Miserable at the Royal variety performance there is its a good watchable clip its right at the end of the segment its very good though

LunchpackOfNotreDame · 11/08/2015 07:37

No. My Valjean is Mr Boe. The performance at the o2 even blew old Colm out the water.

Emochild · 11/08/2015 07:43

I think fans of the live stage version hated RC because he plays the role as a film actor rather than a stage musical performer -very different set of skills

I like musicals but i'm also a film buff and I really liked him
