About the milk farmers?

I fully support dairy farmers and think too bloody right they should be paid more and don't care if the price of milk and cheese goes up.

My friend not so kindly pointed out to me on Facebook that as a non dairy eating household (due to allergies) it's all very well me saying that as the cost doesn't affect us and I should consider that people cannot afford it if the price increased much more.

I'm of the opinion just because I don't use something doesn't mean I can't support ethical production of a product.

I think you're agreeing with it rather than actually supporting it, which of course is going to be a bit easier.

But YANBU anyway although I'd be a bit 'meh' about her comment and wouldn't give it another thought.

I don't know what she means by "if the price increases any more" as my experience is the price is decreasing. A 4 pint bottle of milk used to be around £1.20 then £1 and is now only 89p. It is outrageous if people do not have 89p for basic food but that is a much bigger problem and not a reason for big supermarkets not to pay farmers a fair price. It's not worth getting into an argument with people who say things without thinking them through so I'd shrug it off. YANBU to agree with a cause even if it doesn't directly affect you.

Maybe point out to her that when all the dairy farmers go out of business she too may become a dairy free household.
