PILs live about 3 hours drive from us, which means that we don't see them all that often. DH and DC are very fond of PILs.
PILs have just been on holiday. This morning, MIL rang up at about 9am and said that they were at the airport hotel (about 45mins drive from us), that they'd thought about going to local attraction (about 20 mins from hotel, but not on their way home), and they'd sent DH an e-mail about this at midnight last night, so was he going?
DH was still in bed, but I told MIL that DH was planning on going to attraction today, and woke him up so he could talk to PILs.
Great, I thought. We can take DC out to attraction, they get to see their beloved GPS, it's not too far out of PILs way or they wouldn't have suggested it, everyone's happy.
Wrong. DH came downstairs and said they weren't coming
Apparently they were only planning on going to attraction if DH was physically there waiting when they rang. The attraction doesn't even open until 10am. They said that as DH wasn't there they were just going to drive straight home, and, well they did e-mail so he should have known about their plans.
I'm glad I hadn't mentioned this to DC, but I'm really annoyed, and upset for DH, who said he feels a bit rejected now. I can sort of understand why they might not want to detour to see us on their way home, but to actually ring us up, suggest meeting locally today, and then retract that within 15 minutes is just bizarre and annoying. AIBU?
