Sorry it's a long one but don't want to drip feed Wink

Ok so today we went to a little seaside town. There is a small car park right on the beach next to cafe and loos. The other larger car park is a 10 min walk away so the smaller car park is the most desirable one. But is usually full.

We pull in to the small desirable car park to see a large BMW estate trying to manoeuvre into a spot which was very tight as it had 2 vans parked either side of the empty bay which were also close to the white lines.

There was also a skip parked opposite the space so the BMW was really struggling to park.

I paused to wait for the bmw to get into the space so I could turn round as I was now facing a dead end. There were no other empty spaces.

As we were waiting for the BMW to get into the space (and secretly enjoying the sport of the 230 point turns it was doing), a family with a pram came up to their parked car next to where I was hovering and got into their car. Result, I thought, and put my indicator on to show I would have their space when they left. They took a while to load up as had a pram etc.

The BMW then finally gave up trying to get into the tight space and reversed past me. As it did the woman in it got out and said to the driver of the car who was leaving 'we will have that space'. At the time I was still indicating and hovering next to it. So I said 'no you won't I'm waiting for it and have been for a couple of minutes'. BMW woman told me to try the space they couldn't get into. I said no it was too tight and I don't want to end up scratching cars.

She then said we would get in the tight space as our car is smaller (Astra).

I still said no, at which point she got angry and said they were at the car park first and should have had the right to the space I was now waiting for.

I repeated that I wasn't willing to have the tight space. By now the family with the pram had left, so I wound up my window to shut out BMW womans rant and reversed into my spot.

BMW people left in a huff.

So WIBU?

No.

They'd bagsied another spot! Not your fault it was too small

Methe · 30/07/2015 20:24

No! Ywnbu! Cheeky mare.

DirtyMugPolice · 30/07/2015 20:25

Wow. It's a good car park one. I don't think you were BU as she 'had' a space already. Not your problem that she couldn't get into it!

swallowed · 30/07/2015 20:27

No I don't think YWBU

You win some you lose some, and she lost.

Damnautocorrect · 30/07/2015 20:27

No ywnbu and well done for nabbing it
I lost a space in similar circumstances and 6 years on it still makes me mad!!!!

DirtyMugPolice · 30/07/2015 20:30

Oh and cheeky cow for telling you where to park. Who is she - the parking space police?!

Floralnomad · 30/07/2015 20:37

Good for you , she's a cheeky moo !

IDoAllMyOwnStunts · 30/07/2015 21:00

Thanks folks I have been doubting myself since, she was so convinced I was unreasonable for not going in the tight spot.

Yes I probably could have squeezed into it but I'd have had to slink out doing that funny sideways shuffle which usually ends in tripping over the seat belt and getting covered in crap off the side of the car. Smile

Yanbu. When only the one space was available they weren't offering it to you and your smaller car. Not your fault they are a bit shit at parking.

Fatmomma99 · 30/07/2015 21:17

Well done you!

Don't give it another thought.

purplepandas · 30/07/2015 21:18

Exactly what lurked said. YANBU.

Twodogsandahooch · 30/07/2015 21:21

I'm a bit torn on this one as the BMW was there first. Was there really no way that you could have squeezed into the smaller spot?

IDoAllMyOwnStunts · 30/07/2015 21:28

Twodogs- yes I probably could have squeezed into the space as I've said upthread.

OP posts:
Twodogsandahooch · 30/07/2015 21:32

Sorry I missed that

jeanswithatwist · 30/07/2015 21:37

Good for you, I would have told her to fuck off, bloody BMW driver, head up her arse

Trickydecision · 30/07/2015 21:43

You were totally BU, selfish and entitled.

(Not really, but it's not much fun if everyone agrees that YWNBU)

SavoyCabbage · 30/07/2015 21:45

If she'd said to you 'I can't get in there, do you want a go and if you can get in then I could have your space' in a "we are all in this together/spirit of the blitz" type fashion then maybe you would have been more on her side.

She tried to go over your head by speaking to the other driver first so made you into a competitor rather than a teammate.

PurpleSwift · 30/07/2015 21:50

Yanbu at all.

hiddenhome · 30/07/2015 21:54

She has to learn to take the consequences of driving a big ass car. People who drive smaller cars often come off better as parking is so much easier and it's a perk. Enjoy it Smile

minesapintofwine · 31/07/2015 00:29

Love the fact she told the vacating driver they were going to have the space- as if said vacating driver would give a flying! If I was leaving a parking space and someone said that to me I'd be like 'ding ding' (round 1) and get out of there Confused

Anyway. Ywnbu. Nowt strange as folk.

BerylStreep · 31/07/2015 00:39

YWNBU. You were indicating for a space, it's yours. Not your fault the other driver couldn't get into the space they had bagged.

shadowfax07 · 31/07/2015 02:22

YWNBU - she was a BMW driver Wink
