to get results scan as soon as it's done?

Hi there does anyone know if you get a scan do you get results as soon as you get the scan or do you have to wait and they send results back to doctor? Thanks.

Depends on the type of the scan and who is doing it. Usually if you're having it done as an outpatient then you would not get results immediately (though if it's an ultrasound they will sometimes tell you a bit) and they will send a formal report to your GP.

IME it depends on the scan. Any ultrasounds I've had on liver, kidney, gallbladder and ovary I've had the results verbally and then formal results mailed to the gp, Mri I had to wait for results

For MRI doesn't it usually have to go to a specialist first - the radiologists do the actual scan but they don't read the results

radiographers do the scans- radiologists report them. unless it's a "one stop shop" breast clinic where the radiologist does the ultrasound and tells you/consultant straight away.
