Kevin Mcleods escape to the wild

Anyone just watched it and gone grrrrrr!

The useless bloke on there is being patted on the back for being adventurous and living his dream with his doey eyed wife at his side and all I'm thinking is what a deadbeat dad!

For those who haven't seen it its about a couple who live in very rural Scandinavia and 'brave' the wilderness frontier with their huskies.

So basically he F'd off to another country leaving two kids in the uk so he could follow his dream. He skypes them twice a week and he and his wife bang on about how his kids are his world and how much he misses them! I'm sitting here thinking not enough to contribute to their upbringing or regularly see them though!

If I was Kevin I'd be asking questions about honouring your responsibilies and not putting your own dream first but then I guess I'll never be a tv presenter!!

I thought that. Really annoyed me when they were bleating on about how hard it is for him being away from his kids. bet they didn't get a say in him moving to scandi.

I was more concerned about the children of the other people in the series who had absolutely no choice in the matter of living next to an active volcano or on a very remote South Pacific island.

TBH there was one of these I was quite shocked by before. A married couple with 3 kids on an Island. The oldest boy really struugled with having no one else around.....so they sent him to boarding school. I felt awful for the boy.

Then they kept saying anyone could afford to do it and you just needed to be brave enough. They financed it by selling 2 properties in London that they had made profit on. Earned no money yet could afford boarding school and planned on sending the other 2 when they got fed up too.

Most people i know couldn't afford to send 3 kids to boarding school whilst living on a Island not earning money.

I haven't had the impression that many of these people live in the real world. Then there was the couple and their kids who lived next to an active volcano, so close that they probably wouldn't get out if it erupted.

What a completed self indulgent man child was all I could think. I also wanted to slap the wife, not very sisterly I grant you but FFS! She was all 'oh isn't he great, you Tarzan me Jane' type when all I could focus on was that little boy on Skype saying he missed his dad. Petty I know but if I'd been that boy's mum I'd have been waiting on the other end and said 'right Kevin lets talk about the child maintenance payments this guy owes, what is he going to pay with Reindeers?' Being channel 4 they might have shown it

I watched a few of them and definitely got the impression that some of the featured people (mainly the men - not sure why) were running away from something.

It sounded like a really interesting series but ended up leaving me feeling a bit desperate for these people. Not idyllic at all, really.

The guy in ?Borneo was definitely running away from something.

I've loved the series, fascinating. But yes, selfish and ridiculously privileged to start with.

Yanbu. And I was shocked by the family living in remote Belize where the Dad walked the perimeter of his land with a gun to frighten off intruders.

They were building a house out of rubbish from a local shitty dump and said how much the kids loved going there to collect rubbish. It was sad because they went to the local school but basically were totally cut off from RL. And the Dad really bristled at being asked if he was well off but it was obvious he'd come from money but squandered the lot of living their dream.

They all say they've done it for their kids too which is bloody ironic.

Everyone on that programme has been a lunatic. Did you see the family living next to the live volcano? wTAF?

I have to say that I found them inspirational.
Whenever anyone does anything extraordinary,bold,daring,and life loving,there's always someone hoiking their bosom and fretting for the children....

I thought the chile one was so/so.
I really disliked the dad in the Belize one and agreed that he was running from something. The children seemed in very real danger there.
I loved the Scandinavian one and would love living there but I completely agree that he is a selfish bloke who has put himself first....

What I found odd about the husky couple was thay he only mentioned that he had 2 kids about 50 mins in. And I was shocked (in a hoisting my bosom way - don't care!) but just thought, wow, how could you choose a life with such little prospect of regular contact with your children?

I think this programme is quite misleading. The couple on the island weren't really remote at all, and we're running a very 5 star resort on the island. Makes me doubt the rest of the series too...

I'm all for life loving but not at the expense of someone else's wellbeing. You make children you have responsibilities, end of. We'd all love to skip off to a desert island but we don't because we made a conscious choice to be responsible for another human being. To my mind that is something that overrides anything else.

If that makes me bosom honking then call me Les Dawson and pass the hair rollers

Wow mabel really?? That episode made it look like they were living on a tiny island in the middle of nowhere! Can't believe you are running a hotel on ?? the same island! Really?
