To let him sleep? Or should I wake him?

My DS is 9 with autism and health problems. He's been an OK sleeper recently but he's just had another neurological regression and sleep seems to have disappeared.

So last night he fell asleep finally at 5am (so this morning really) meaning he's still in bed now. The only thing is we have to be up for school at 6am tomorrow as his school is miles away.

Do I let him sleep and risk him not sleeping tonight, or wake him up and spend the entire day dealing with meltdowns.?

I would just let him sleep, because there's no guarantee he'll sleep tonight. I may be wrong but that's what I would do. hope everything goes ok Smile

Thanks I might leave him till dinner time. Luckily his PA isn't coming today as usual or he'd have had to be up by 9!

My son is now 14. Up to age 9/10 he was a truly awful sleeper. Late to bed and then up 7/8/9 times every night. Wide awake....not naughty but wanting to wake me and chat.

Eventually, exhausted, I asked about Melatonin. He was prescribed slow release melatonin in the form of Circadin2mg. It sorted out his clock. Sometimes, he still needs a quick course of it. Age 9 is not too young to try it when lack of sleep is totally disrupting his (and your) life.

Forgot to say, ds has autism.

Hi Eliza, he has 6mg melatonin every night. It helps a bit but doesn't work when he's really fighting it x

Hurr1cane we know how you feel in this household.
5DC,2 of our DC are autistic(and registered disabled)and they both struggle with sleep, our older daughter(not disabled)has night terrors so doesn't usually get a good nights sleep either and I have insomnia like my Dad unfortunately.

My DR has prescribed us Phenergan 25mg Tablets that's the brand name the tablets are called Promethazine Hydrochloride.

They are amazing,Thank God my Dr put us on to them I don't know how much longer we could of all gone without sleep.

You can use them from 5 years old.Good Luck,I hope you both start getting the settled nights you need Flowers

Hi all. Sorry he got up at 11 then proceeded to have what we now know was a really bad seizure at 1! He was blue lighted to hospital as they thought he had a mini stroke! Home with him now poor little thing
