Sets my teeth on edge when people describe outfits as being suitable or appropriate for 'school run' like it has to be of a certain standard or type to be deemed ok.

I think it's a bit sad that some folk might feel pressurised to look or dress a certain way before they can drop off or pick up at school.

It only happens at the type of schools Elle MacPhearson's kids attend. In Real Life no one cares.

Yes l agree OP it really annoys me that l can't leave the house in my tracky bottoms self inflicted rule, l always change into jeans

To me, a school run outfit is one that can be pulled on easily, quickly and with minimal thought and effort. But not my pyjamas

I've seen it loads on here. I didn't realise the school run was such a big deal to some women. There are a couple of mums at dd's school struggling in wedges at 8:50am which is quite funny

Nothing like this at dd's school. School run outfit is surely just the outfit you're wearing for the day? On days in working my outfit will be businesslike but other days it'll be jeans. .. Not a bikini or pjs but everything else is fine. I don't hang around long enough to judge outfits.

Enough pressures of being a mum withput the added judgyness - i wouldnt care what someone else was wearing!

My mum used to drop me off at school in her pjs and dressing gown! She didnt get out of the car though...that is maybe one exception to the rule of having a certain standard of whats ok to wear!

If I ever do a school run in sweatpants then stay clear cos I'm having the WORST day. Anything not pjs works for me.

The phrase is used on here as just shorthand for an easy/casual summer dress - not sure if that is what annoys OP so much?

It's just nonsense spouted on the S&B board, surely? I don't know anyone in RL who would consider 'but how will it look on the school run?' whilst choosing clothes to buy or to put on.
I wear whatever I'm wearing that day to do the school run. The only exception I can think of is one day when I had been painting a room and was covered in paint, so I got changed, but apart from that, I can't think why on earth I'd bother changing to go to school.

I didn't realise people bothered about what they wore on the school run. I'm glad I live in a bit of a bubble sometimes!

yy Finola. After a day tootling round after toddlers in the muddy garden, whip orf sticky fingerprinted togs, pop the SR dress on and whizz to pickup. Ta dah.

An exception is when you have been baking and you have a delightful biscuity aroma.

I think people who worry about what they wear on the school run possibly just have too much time on their hands!

I would take off nice clothes if I was going out in the garden, then put the nice clothes back on when I go out again.

It's major round here. The look had to be effortless, casual but stunning: cashmere long cardies and knee high boots in winter and perfectly manicured toes and tans with metallic fitflops and a little shift dress. Very uniform, very widespread. Crawling in in your tracky bottoms would oust you. I made an effort until I met good friends who equally didn't care. But tbh it was quite useful. I could so easily live in hideous baggy trousers and ugly trainers. The glamorous mums made me find clothes that look good and take no effort to put on.

A school run dress as oft mentioned on S&B is simply a garment that can be slung on when it is time for the school run when one has been arsing about with toddlers in the garden in clothing not appropriate for the school gates ie bikini.

Meh. Some Mothers do it...some don't. Either you care about that kind of thing or you don't. What others do doesn't affect you.

Do these women get changed again when they get home and then back into the sro at pick up?

Do they have a "going out to walk the dog outfit" and a "going to waitrose" outfit?

I can only assume they have massive wardrobes for all these outfits for individual occasions throughout the day and spend a lot of time sorting appropriate hair dos for each outfit.

It sounds exhausting. I turn up in whatever I've got on and at times it's been in paint covered clothes from decorating or in cut offs if I've been gardening. I really don't care if anyone has issues with this.

I think your interpretation of the term "suitable for school run" says a lot.

To me, it means easy to put on and comfy to wear.

Onesie and fluffy slippers passes as "suitable for the school run" round here

I've seen it on MN and I've had conversations with some mums at my kids school about this, some who feel they need to dress up or make an effort before doing drop off/pick up. Most of it was a bit jokey but there were a couple where you could tell it did bother them. I guess confidence has a lot to do with it, and some people don't care what others think of their attire, be it smart, tracksuit bottoms or paint splattered jeans.

People actually do that?

I wear princessy dresses daily, because I like to prance about and I find them fun. No way would I get changed into a cashmere cardigan and jeans with wellies - what even is that look, farmer glam? Just wear what you want

My DH wears a pink, fairy princess dress on the school run.

It's all the rage amongst the cool Dads.
