to say I wont pay for alterations

to my daughters prom dress!
dress ordered 4 months ago, paid 50% rest payable upon collection. plus £50 ph alterations which will need as dd very short.
dress was due in first week of may and here we are prom nxt week and its arriving at bridal shop thurs.
im so peed off, lady doing alterations only can do monday morning, iv now had to book half day off work to go.
if the dress had arrived wen was meant to there would hav been ample opportunity to get dd to get dress altered on a day off.
wibu to tell bridal shop cause its there cockup they can foot the bill?

YANBU to expect some money off. You paid half and arranged in advance. Whether you will get a okay or not...don't know but you should say.

I work in a bridal shop, I doubt the late delivery is anything to do with them and more than likely the designer. We're having a similar issue with one of our designers. I am chasing them daily and that's all I physically can do. I'd ask if they would discount the alts for you, they may be tied to what their seamstress chargers. It's worth asking though.

Alternatively you could look for a local seamstress that can fit in with your work schedule, use her for the alterations and not take time off.

YABU and YANBU both. You are right to want compensation for this but don't phrase it as demanding the alterations for free, as dress sales and alterations income are probably accounted for very differently in their finances. Plus they can probably pass some of the cost of the compensation on to their supplier who cooked up. So, your half day off is effectively costing you 4hrs of (hourly salary). You should just say that the massive delay in delivery is costing you £X in lost income and it would be appropriate if that amount was knocked off the final bill and the cost passed on to whoever caused the delay.
