I've been doing some freelance work for a certain guy over the last few months and all seemed to be going OK. He's now asked me to get a bit more involved with his business so I did some research on the aspect he wanted me to handle. It turns out that basically he's a complete charlatan with a number of directorships behind him, never resigned from, he has about 15 different companies which have all been dissolved. Every single one. There is literally nothing to his name.

It didn't bother me before because it was no risk to me but I am supposed to be putting my name to this business and there's no way is there?? I am rubbish at letting people down and he keeps messaging me tonight wanting to know my thoughts (on a work situation!). I haven't replied, I don't know what to say. I only met him in person for the first time last week.

What do I do? What do I say?!

Say on reflection you have a lot of other work/family commitments at the moment and you cannot give the time he needs to help him out.

Then ignore him.

You're not obliged to work for him, are you?

Motherinlawsdung · 02/06/2015 21:34

Have you been paid for the work you have done?
Are you sure of your facts about him? people often have a valid business even if there are a string of previous directorships listed under their name.
If you want to turn down his offer just say that you prefer the freedom of being completely freelance.
